This is a major win for the Rio Grande Valley!

For years, I've worked with local leaders to ensure Cameron County remains an essential gateway for the U.S. and Mexico. Now that we've secured a Presidential Permit to own, operate and maintain the Brownsville & Matamoros Bridge, South Texas is on track to further strengthen international trade between our two nations and bring even more economic opportunity to RGV families and businesses.

Cameron County has received a Presidential Permit authorizing it to own, operate, and maintain the Brownsville & Matamoros Bridge following its acquisition of Union Pacific's ownership stake.

South Texas, please keep Mr. Ram Chavez in your prayers today!

Ram has dedicated his life to serving others—as a respected teacher, proud Vietnam veteran, and longtime director of the Veteran’s Band in Corpus Christi. He has made a lasting impact on so many lives in our community.

I’m wishing him comfort and quick healing during this time. ❤️🙏

One of the great joys about being a member of Congress is helping foster our next generation of leaders. From South Texas to D.C., our summer intern cohort continues to show great passion and commitment for families in our district, and I'm grateful for all their work!

If you are interested in interning in any of my offices, please visit my website at Gonzalez.House.gov/services/internships.

July 30th marks the 61st anniversary of Medicare. This critical program has continued to provide South Texas seniors with high-quality, affordable healthcare everyday since.

As we celebrate this milestone, I reaffirm my commitment to defend Medicare and stand by our seniors.

This past weekend, the Apache Ndé Nation held a, “Blessing of the Chiefs” ceremony, for the second time in history since 1747, to spread the message of reconciliation, respect and unity among tribal nations.

During the ceremony, had the honor of recognizing the Apache Chiefs and the Apache Ndé Nation with a U.S. Flag flown over our nation’s Capitol and a Congressional Recognition!

Instead of focusing on the deportation of violent criminals—something we can all agree on—this Administration’s hyperaggressive ICE raids are targeting honest, hardworking individuals who build our communities.

Proud to stand with the South Texas Builders Association: C-W as I work toward commonsense solutions that keep people safe, restore a critical workforce, and rein in ICE.

I had a great discussion with the Texas Credit Union Association about the importance of expanding access to reliable financing across South Texas. As our region continues to grow, ensuring families and businesses can obtain financial services is critical to strengthening our economy.

We also talked about my recent work to advance the STOP Payments Fraud Act through the House Financial Services Committee. This legislation gives banks additional tools to stop scammers by placing temporary holds on suspicious checks and wire transfers before any fraud can occur.

had the honor of welcoming two South Texas Girl Scout troops to the U.S. Capitol during their visit to Washington, D.C., for the 2026 National Girl Scouts Conference!

We recognized these outstanding young leaders with a Congressional Certificate for their commitment to service and for making their communities a better place. Thank you for proudly representing our region on the national stage!

had the opportunity to visit the Lennox Foundation Southmost Preserve—one of the most ecologically significant areas in the Rio Grande Valley.

This conservation area not only protects the wildlife of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, but also serves as a hub for university research, resaca restoration, and a native seedling nursery that supports habitat restoration efforts across the region. I remain committed to protecting and preserving this vital natural treasure!
