My views on the filibuster are longstanding and not tied to any specific piece of legislation. I would stand firm on the filibuster in any instance, because it is the cornerstone of the Senate.

Without it, the Senate would function like the House, where individual members—and the constituents they represent—have less ability to shape major legislation. Leadership would have much more control. The body would become unrecognizable to our Founders.

It protects the rights of the minority in the Senate—even when it’s a minority of one.

Carol Lynn Pearson was more than an accomplished poet and author. To me, she was first a relative.

As a young boy, I knew her from family gatherings, Christmas Eve dinners and family pictures. She was simply Carol Lynn. It was only later that I came to appreciate the influence of her life and work.

As my own life took me into public service, she followed my work. She never criticized, only encouraged. She led with sincerity, grace, and compassion.

My love and condolences go to her family and to the many whose lives she touched. She will be missed.

Legendary Latter-day Saint poet, playwright and activist Carol Lynn Pearson has died at age 86. "The Mormon people were truly blessed to have her as a companion," a historian says, "and the institution would have done well to listen to her.”

The United States has, again, made it clear that Russia cannot be allowed to win its war against Ukraine. Proud to preside over tonight’s bipartisan vote to advance legislation, championed by my late colleague Senator Lindsey Graham, that imposes sanctions targeting Putin’s war machine and reaffirms America's commitment to standing with the Ukrainian people.

Four years running as the best state in the nation! This recognition reflects what Utahns already know: our state's strength is found in its people—hardworking families, innovative businesses, strong communities, and neighbors who look out for one another.

The state of Utah is building a dynasty not unlike the great UCLA and Yankees teams of the past after being named the best state in the U.S. for a fourth straight year.

Lindsey Graham devoted his life to serving our country and advancing American values throughout the world. To me, his character was defined by his kindness and wit—which will be sorely missed in Washington. It was an honor to pay tribute to him in the Capitol Rotunda today.

We’re only one month into Utah’s typical fire season, yet we’ve already seen over 380,000 acres burned. The fires have also led to catastrophic flooding, as we’ve seen in Beaver.

The Fix Our Forests Act is comprehensive, turnkey legislation that would help prevent, mitigate, and manage these wildfires. It has the support it needs to clear the Senate and become law and just needs to be put forward for a vote.

After surveying burn scars and flood damage in Beaver yesterday, I joined officials in meeting with local grazers to discuss how we can prevent further disasters, including by passing the Fix Our Forests Act. Our bill, which has enough support to become law and just needs a Senate vote, would make regulations more workable and provide needed resources to better mitigate wildfires and restore forest ecosystems.

Sharing my highs and lows this week from Beaver County, where I've joined community leaders in examining the terrible damage caused by floods and wildfires. It's high time to pass the Fix Our Forests Act.
