The 7th Ward's Fall Clean Sweep is this Saturday, October 3. A dumpster will be placed at 1815 N. Sheridan Rd. from 8AM to 12PM.

Tires off their rims and electronics will be accepted, in addition to many other items.
NO commercial vehicles will be permitted (Box Trucks, U-Haul Trailers, Etc.)

Items NOT accepted include yard waste, liquids, tree trunks, concrete, brick, stone, rocks, hazardous waste, flammable materials, car parts, small engines, paint, stain, and railroad ties.

When you encounter a school bus, slow down, stay alert and be prepared to stop. Never pass a school bus when its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.

Please also watch carefully for students crossing the street and follow the directions of crossing guards.

Remember:
• Two lane roads: Traffic in both directions must stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended.

• Multi lane or divided roads: Vehicles traveling behind the bus must stop. Traffic traveling in the opposite direction may proceed with caution when separated by a median or physical divider.

Give yourself extra time, slow down and stay alert around school buses and school zones. Working together helps keep students, crossing guards, bus drivers and everyone on the road safe.

Due to road construction and resurfacing, parking is currently affected on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

Parking on both the east and west sides of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. will be affected by construction, with intermittent parking closures continuing until construction is complete.

Parking for City of Waukegan Business is available in the rear parking lot of City Hall/Waukegan Police Department, accessible from West Street. Street parking is also on West Street.

Please plan accordingly and thank you for your patience during construction.

Waukegan High School’s 2026 Homecoming Parade is next Friday, October 2, and the community is invited to line the streets and cheer on the students, families, organizations and groups taking part.

The parade will begin at 5:30PM and travel through the neighborhood surrounding Waukegan High School’s Brookside Campus, following the same route as last year:

Brookside Avenue → Flossmoor → University → Tiffany → Lydia → Martin → Brookside

This year’s Homecoming theme is Midnight Garden.

Parade applications are now closed, but there’s still a great way to be part of the celebration: come out to the neighborhood on Friday, October 2 and enjoy the parade!

Parade Start: 5:30PM
Line-Up: 4:30PM at the WHS Brookside Campus main parking lot

The City of Waukegan is partnering with Jewel-Osco to host a Flu & COVID-19 Shot Clinic at Waukegan City Hall this Saturday, September 26 from 10AM-1PM.

Vaccines are available at no cost with most insurance plans. All commercial insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, are accepted. Each individual’s insurance plan will be billed.

Use the QR code on the flyer to schedule your appointment. The QR code will automatically generate the immunization consent form, which Jewel-Osco pharmacists will bring with them on the day of the clinic. Can't scan the QR code? The City of Waukegan is moving forward with plans to improve the Washington Street corridor from just east of Lewis Avenue to east of Sheridan Road.

The City Council voted 9-0 to approve the City’s 20% participation in a $400,000 Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant request that would fund the engineering phase of the project.

Planned improvements include upgraded sidewalks and accessibility ramps, bicycle infrastructure connecting to the Robert McClory Bike Path, improved transit stops, mid-block crosswalks, street lighting, landscaping and streetscape improvements near businesses.

The larger project is expected to rebuild Washington Street from Green Bay Road to the Metra station near downtown, creating improved connections for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, public transportation users, businesses and students.

“This project is a crucial milestone as we continue to rebuild Waukegan,” Mayor Sam Cunningham said.
