Today we celebrated Yoga Day, June 21st, which is the longest day of the year. I have been practising yoga for 37 years, and for me it is the greatest blessing. I sincerely thank India for this wonderful science for the physical, mental, and spiritual body. I am grateful to all those great saints such as Shivananda, Ramana, and others for those marvelous spiritual books they have given us: Vedanta, Yogavasishta, Bhagavad Gita, and Ramayana. I am deeply thankful to India and to the Embassy of India. As was said, Yoga is not about standing on one leg and achieving miracles but about stability of the mind, being balanced, being unified. The very word 'yoga' means unification with everything. We are everywhere; we must be more conscious, let go of the ego, and become better and more humane people – that was the message. Someone asked me, 'Why did you choose the path of yoga?' And in a few words, I would say: Yoga is an opportunity to change the way of living, the way of thinking, and why not also the physical and health aspects for those who practise yoga. For me, Yoga has been something more. Through it I found calmness, peace within myself. I have practised it for 25 years, for which I have even written a book. It is something beautiful and interesting. A lesson that begins with a spiritual prayer and ends likewise with a prayer that unites everyone together with the Namaste prayer. I stand where the universe stands; if you also stand here, then we are one. This is what I can say regarding Yoga. -Ms. Polikseni, a 78-year-old Albanian Yoga Guru.
