7.30am: Toolbox talk about working at heights.
9.30am: A worker falls more than four metres.

The fall left the worker unconscious, and they spent seven days in hospital. The safety system had identified the risk, but work started before the scaffold was put in place. Identifying hazards is only part of the job. Controls must be in place before work starts.

This July to September, WHSQ inspectors will visit construction sites across Queensland to check that controls for working at heights are in place.

Take a moment to review your controls and ensure they’re ready before work begins.

Established in 2019 to meet local demand, Jeovic Community Care delivers support services with a strong focus on client outcomes.

Jeovic Care’s experience with the Injury Prevention and Management (IPaM) program was a positive one, with practical and tailored support from their advisor every step of the way.

Through the program, they identified gaps, strengthened procedures and embedded health and safety more clearly into day-to-day operations.

It also helped foster a workplace culture that prioritises safety and accountability.

This will give them long-term cultural and operational improvements, and a stronger approach to WHS.

Creating a psychologically safe workplace supports emotional wellbeing, helps workers recover with confidence, and keeps your costs down.

New research shows that secondary psychological injury is often driven by uncertainty, lack of control, financial stress and pre-injury mental health.

You can help prevent further harm by:

🤝 reaching out early, communicating genuinely and taking time to listen
🧭 providing clear guidance through the claim process and recognising when extra support is needed
📝 working closely with your insurer to make sure suitable duties and recovery plans are tailored to a worker’s needs.

Multispares, a long-standing supplier of replacement truck parts across Queensland, recently completed the Injury Prevention and Management (IPaM) program.

With support from a dedicated IPaM advisor, the business took a close look at its WHS systems, identified key risk gaps and made targeted improvements across manual handling, traffic management and product storage. It also strengthened its auditing processes by embedding competency verification for mobile machinery.

The result? Greater staff awareness, stronger hazard reporting and a safer, more proactive workplace.
