Start by looking for the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) on the product or packaging. It shows the product meets relevant Australian electrical safety requirements.

Electrical Safety Fortnight 2026 has wrapped up!

The fortnight featured five major events aimed at electrical contractors and workers, battery and solar installers and registered training organisations, attracting more than 2000 people.

The Electrical Safety Office also visited primary schools, childcare centres, and electrical wholesalers across Queensland to provide important electrical safety messages with industry and the community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, and helped share important electrical safety messages.

Together, we're helping Queensland stay electrically safe at work, home and in the community.

Safety switches are designed to protect you, your family and anyone visiting your home from electric shock.

They turn off the power in a fraction of a second if a leakage of current is detected.

This Electrical Safety Fortnight we’re reminding everyone to test their safety switches every three months by pressing the 'Test' or 'T' button. If the switch trips, it's working as intended. Simply reset it afterwards.

If your safety switch doesn't trip, or you're unsure how to test it, contact a licensed electrician.

There can be serious electrical risks in roof spaces.

If you’re a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) or a worker, you’re legally required to ensure:

⚡ The building’s electrical installations are de-energised, or;
✅ A prescribed circumstance applies and all additional safety requirements are met.

⚡️ It’s not normal to feel a shock or tingle from your appliances or taps—it could be a sign of electrical wiring issues that need immediate attention!

If you feel a shock or tingle, contact your electricity distributor ASAP, stay clear and warn others to ensure you and your family are safe.

Remember, don't touch anything until it's declared safe. 🚧

If someone gets shocked, seek medical help right away. Safety first, always!
