Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc

Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc The Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc (FMBC) is a club that is run by volunteers.

The Fitzroy Motor Boat Club Inc (FMBC) has been around for over 100 years with facilities to encourage its members to enjoy the company of others who are interested in boating. With two slips available, the FMBC also has excellent facilities to repair or maintain boats. The FMBC also is a licenced venue and is available for hire to members and the public for celebrations such as weddings, engageme

nts, funerals as well as training and other meetings. The FMBC does not cater for functions, however, a commercial kitchen is available for self catering. The rear deck overlooks the picturesque Fitzroy River and although the building is unobtrusive, the venue is a hidden treasure and one of the best kept secrets in Rockhampton.

Flood picture from long ago on the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton. Callaghan Park and the Berserker Range in the background. Check out the depth gauges in feet. The river was dredged back then to allow large coastal freighters to come into the city and there was a rail line to the wharves. (Pic recently posted on FB by Rockhampton Old Pics and Yarns)

Here we go again with the Fitzroy River getting a good run up already from the recent rain in the catchment. A massive log just passed the FMBC Clubhouse and Slipways today! Most boats have left their moorings already and have sought safety anchored around the corner towards Devils Elbow. (Thanks Tommy Jones for sending this photo.)

Floods are often dangerous and heart breaking. The Gladstone Harbour Master issues yellow, then orange then red alerts. Once it reaches red level, conditions are considered too dangerous for anyone to attempt to go out and save their vessel. This is enforceable by Qld Police. MSQ advises boaties to move their vessel to safety during the yellow alert and to be proactive. (These comments are general advice to boaties only.)
