The Skellig Islands, off the coast of Co.Kerry. The larger of the 2 Islands is Sceilig Mhichíl (Skellig Michael), which has at it's summit a well preseved monastic settlement from the 6th century. To get to the summit and view the beehive huts which were the homes of the monks of the Augustinian Order ,one has to climb 600 steps- some 218 metres(714 feet) over the Atlantic Ocean. The smaller of the 2 islands is Sceilig Bheag(Little Skellig) which is an important seabird colony.
Star Wars fans take note: the beautiful Skellig Michael is Luke Skywalker's Island Sanctuary in both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi💚☘. May the force be with you 🙂.

Representatives of the European Union in Thailand and some Member States as well as like-minded Embassies met with environmental rights activist Lertsak Kumkongsak to discuss the impact of mining activity in northern and northeastern Thailand on local communities and the environment. Two members of the Campaign for Public Policy on Mineral Resources (PPM), a Thai NGO working to protect environmental and community rights, also joined the meeting.

The EU fully supports the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and is a global leader in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. Civil society representatives play a crucial role in raising awareness on these matters. It is important that they are able to carry out their work freely and safely.

Ambassador Cotter was pleased today to meet the Chairman of the Mitr Phol Group, Khun Isara Vongkusolkit, to discuss potential opportunities for collaboration.

The Mitr Phol Group is the largest sugar producer in Thailand and fourth largest in the world. The Group have expanded their core business to encompass other entities including wood substitute, biomass, ethanol and fertilizers and have operations in China, Laos, Australia and the United States.

Many thanks to Governor Surasak Chareornsirichot and the Tourism Authority of Thailand for facilitating Ambassador Cotter’s visit to Nakhon Pathom Province. The visit was a useful and welcome opportunity to learn more about Nakhon Pathom Province which is home to several prestigious Universities and well known for its agricultural products and fruit orchards. The Phra Pathom Chedi, the world’s tallest chedi modelled after the Great Stupa of Sanchi in central India, marks the site where Buddhism was first introduced to Thailand more than two thousand years ago. Sanam Chandra Palace, the royal residence used by King Rama VI to visit Phra Pathom Chedi, built in 1907 remains “one of Thailand’s often overlooked treasures”.

Ambassador Cotter had a particularly positive and useful meeting with Police
Major General Pornchai Kuntee, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau of Thailand this morning. The discussion covered the continuing generous and evolving flexibility offered by the Immigration Bureau to Irish citizens in Thailand during the Covid-19 outbreak. This includes the option to apply to renew permission to remain in Thailand for a further 60 days. The Immigration Bureau confirmed that citizens no longer require Embassy letters as a mandatory requirement and can instead self-certify via a Declaration Form available at Local Immigration Offices. This Form will also be available from the Immigration Bureau website in due course. The Embassy of Ireland wishes to again acknowledge the continuing warm professional support and assistance of the Immigration Bureau of Thailand during the COVID-19 outbreak. #immigrationbureau #royalthaipolice #thailand #MinistryOfInterior #ministryofforeignaffairs

Over 27,000 Thai military, police and civilian staff have proudly served in more than 20 UN peacekeeping missions around the world since 1958. Very pleased to have the opportunity today to meet with Khun Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Director General, Department of International Organisations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with Ambassador colleagues from India, Kenya, Mexico and Norway to discuss our membership of the Security Council in 2021 and 2022. Ireland is humbled and honored that the members of the United Nations General Assembly, including the Kingdom of Thailand, have again placed their trust in us to serve as an elected member to the Security Council following two years of official campaigning and represents the fourth time that Ireland has been on the Security Council. Three principles will underpin our approach to our membership of the Security Council: Building Peace - Ireland has a longstanding and proud record of continuous service on UN peacekeeping operations -, Strengthening Prevention including addressing the factors underlying conflict including insecurity, hunger, poor governance, climate change, violations of human rights and Ensuring Accountability.
