Jasmine is a former New York State foster youth who transformed her pain into passion. After experiencing and witnessing injustice and maltreatment in the NYS Foster Care System, Jasmine now advocates for changes in child welfare policy, critiques the effectiveness of foster youth resources, and brainstorms solutions to bridge the gaps.

At just 20 years old, she has already become involved in policy advocacy working with New York State’s OCFS, nonprofit organizations and initiatives focused on youth, leadership and policy conversations.

At UAlbany, she founded the university’s first Foster Love Club to create community, connect foster youth with resources, and help young people become advocates for themselves and others.

Jasmine’s long-term vision is to build a nonprofit dedicated to foster youth, produce a documentary that exposes the realities young people experience in New York’s foster care system, and create a platform where foster youth can influence the policies that shape their lives.

She is now working toward transferring to NYU and moving to New York City because NYC would put her closer to the filmmakers, nonprofit leaders, policymakers, funders, internships, and professional networks that can help turn these ideas into reality.
