No pen & no paper… it’s insane to think the first time I’ve publicly spoke at a macro level was when I was 17. I had actually prepared a script but later ditched it to give a far better heartfelt speech. I’ve grown to love the thrill and the journey that comes with speaking publicly. I like to call it a healthy adrenaline rush!

Every child deserves more than a safe place to sleep, they deserve a place where their identity is embraced. 🌎🤍

Too often, foster youth ask to be placed in homes that honor their culture, traditions, language, and lived experiences. Feeling connected to your culture isn’t a luxury but rather a part of feeling seen, valued, and understood.

As we work to improve the child welfare system, let’s continue listening to youth voices and recognize that culturally responsive placements can strengthen identity, belonging, and healing.

Every young person deserves a home where they never have to leave a part of themselves at the door. ❤️

Daryl Martinez Lowry was only 13 years old. Just three days after entering foster care, his life was tragically cut short.

While we often talk about abuse from adults, we also need to have difficult conversations about youth-on-youth violence, maltreatment, and abuse. Too many young people enter care carrying deep trauma, and without the right support, supervision, and intervention, that trauma can have devastating consequences for everyone involved.

No child should lose their life in a place that was meant to keep them safe. Protecting foster youth means ensuring appropriate placements, adequate supervision, trauma-informed care, and accountability when systems fail.

Rest in power, Daryl. Your life mattered. May your story be a call to action to build a child welfare system where every young person is protected, supported, and given the chance to heal.

Behind every small business is a story, and some stories carry more weight than most.

They are a former foster youth who survived homelessness, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Instead of allowing those experiences to define them, they chose to build something that could create hope for others.

Today I had the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Youth Speak Out at the University at Albany. đź’śđź’›

It was an honor to connect with other young people who have lived experience in the child welfare system, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions to strengthen the systems that serve youth. Every conversation reinforced the importance of ensuring that those most impacted have a seat at the table when decisions are made.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn from others, share my perspective, and continue advocating for meaningful change. Go Great Danes!

We talk a lot about abuse from adults in foster care, but not enough about the harm that can happen between youth. Many kids carry unhealed trauma, and without the right support, that pain can hurt others too. We need to protect every child while making sure every child has access to healing.

That progress didn’t happen by chance. It happened because people fought for programs that provide housing, financial aid, campus support, mentoring, and opportunities that help foster youth succeed in higher education.

While this is worth celebrating, it also reminds us how much work remains. Even at 8–10%, far too many young people with incredible potential are still being left behind because of barriers they didn’t create.

When we invest in foster youth, we don’t just change graduation statistics. We change lives, families, and futures.

Let’s keep advocating for the resources, policies, and support systems that make higher education accessible to every young person in care. One degree can change a generation.
