🎥 Film in Maine Profile: Meet Producer Mary Budd! Mary started in the industry by working on a Maine film, “Black Rock,” a thriller/horror movie shot in 2011 in Milbridge and on nearby offshore islands. In 2023, she co-produced “Magic Hour” in and around Joshua Tree National Park. She was pleased to be back in her hometown of Bangor for “Their Town.”

She sees her role as producer as a problem solver, which came into play early in the production. While location scouting, a lead on a house fell through, so she walked down the street and knocked on a neighbor’s door asking if the owner would be willing to allow them to shoot there for two days. To Mary’s surprise, the owner agreed without hesitation.

“This is not something that happens in other film locations,” she said.

“Their Town” had its Maine premier at the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) this past July.
