From Maine EMS Director O'Neal
Given the ongoing impact on so many of our united Public Safety Community by the recent tragedies in Searsmont and Avon, Maine EMS has coordinated with the Friends of EMS for Maine and made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming Maine EMS Memorial and Awards ceremonies scheduled for this coming Thursday, May 21, at the Capitol grounds in Augusta.

We hope to reschedule these important gatherings. In this moment, our hearts and thoughts are with the families, responders, and loved ones as they weather these difficult times.

Maine EMS wishes healing thoughts and deepest respect for the responders, civilians, investigators, families, friends, and community members impacted. We are a state with deep ties and beyond the event we see the strength, dedication, and support that arises. We have many who are still facing significant medical hurdles and this support will help them each day.
We also face the loss of one of our own. The Maine State EMS office sends our condolences to the family of Andrew Cross, his friends, the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department, and his colleagues. Thank you Andrew for your bravery, your service and your selfless valor.

So tragic. Heartfelt condolences to Warden Tibbetts family and colleagues.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is heartbroken to share that Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts died this morning in a plane crash in Avon, ME.

Game Warden Pilot Tibbetts served the people of Maine as a Maine Game Warden for 18 years, including the last three years as a pilot for Maine Warden Service. In that role, his specialized aviation work supported search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries and wildlife conservation, and public safety across the state.

This is an incredibly difficult loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Maine Warden Service. We ask the public to keep his loved ones, his fellow Game Wardens, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts in the days ahead.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Department will cooperate fully with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene and for the support already being shown to the Maine Warden Service family.

A Sad Day for our public safety family. Our deepest condolences to all involved.
