The Maine State Police was established in 1925 in order to enforce the laws of Maine in the rural areas. The Maine State Police is the state's largest police agency with an authorized complement of 333 sworn personnel, ranging from Trooper to Colonel. Troopers patrol Maine's Highways and provide full service law enforcement services to the citizens and visitors throughout the State. Detectives inv

estigate homicides, child abuse and other major crimes. There are several specialty units within the State Police to include a tactical, underwater recovery, evidence response, crisis negotiations, and incident management. On this day in 1975, Ellen Choate was reported missing while en route to Bangor from Philadelphia. Her decomposed body was discovered off the Old County Road in Newport two years later.

📢 SILVER ALERT 📢

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for 76-year-old Terri Benner of Pemaquid. Ms. Benner who suffers from cognitive issues was last seen on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM at her home on Bristol Road in Pemaquid. Ms. Benner is a white female, 5’00”, 200 lbs., with gray hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a white and blue nightgown. She is driving a silver 2004 Toyota Tundra with Maine registration 511LDE. She does not have a cell phone. If located please call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 207.882.7332.

📰 Major Crimes Detectives Arrest Clinton Man in Connection to Clinton Homicide 📰

On Thursday, May 21st, 2026, at approximately 3:20 PM, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central arrested 66-year-old James Simonson of Clinton in Clinton.

Simonson has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person in connection with a shooting that occurred in late June of 2025, on Main Street in Clinton. As a result of the incident, 68-year-old William “Bill” Parent of Clinton died from the injuries he sustained.

An autopsy was conducted at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, which determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and the manner of death homicide. Simonson was transported to the Kennebec County Jail where he is being held without bail. No further details will be released at this time.

UNSOLVED - MISSING PERSON 🚨

Name: Angel "Tony" Torres
Case Date: 1999
Town: Biddeford

Angel or "Tony", as he was also known, was reported Missing by his family on May 24, 1999. Angel was in the S**o/ Biddeford/OOB area at the time of his disappearance. Foul play is suspected.

On what would have been Angel's 38th birthday (4/1/2016), the Torres family has received a generous donation increasing the reward in this case from $5000. to $10,000. On Saturday May, 21st, 2016 (the 17th anniversary of Angels disappearance) the reward has been increased to $15000. On the anniversary of his disappearance in 2021, the reward was increased to $16,500. Thanks to another recent donation, the reward was increased to $20,000 on Aug. 23, 2021.
