The Defense & Manufacturing Training Fund can provide eligible employers with up to $8,000 per employee for workforce training.

Whether you're hiring new talent, upskilling current employees, or building an apprenticeship program, this funding can help reduce the cost of training while strengthening your workforce.

MDOL, in partnership with the Manufacturers Association of Maine, Maine Defense Industry Alliance, Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and key higher education and state agencies, was recently provisionally selected by the U.S. Department of Labor to support defense and advanced manufacturing employers’ investments in workforce training.

Building connections for older workers in Maine

Career Navigator Nina Fearon was out in the community on August 25, representing A4TD at the TriCounty CareerCenter’s August Job Fair.

Joined by A4TD CEO Alex Fizz, Nina had the opportunity to meet with local employers, including Compass Group and Volunteers of America, and talk about the employment and training needs of mature workers in the region.

Events like this give A4TD the chance to build the relationships that matter — connecting with employers, learning about local workforce needs, and helping create pathways to employment for the older adults we serve.

Thank you to Tri-County Career Center for bringing employers and job seekers together and giving organizations like A4TD the opportunity to be part of the conversation.

🎓🌟 Celebrating Ellie! 🌟🎓

As summer comes to a close, we’re sending our very best wishes to our Human Resources Apprentice, Ellie Calhoun, as she returns to the University of Maine at Farmington to continue her studies!

Ellie spent the summer with TEMPO as part of the State of Maine Apprenticeship Program, gaining hands-on experience in all things HR. Throughout the summer, she worked alongside our team on recruiting and applicant screening, job descriptions, HR policies and training materials, process improvements, and other projects that gave her a real-world look at the many sides of human resources.

It has been especially rewarding to watch Ellie grow in her confidence, judgment, and ability to look at a process and ask, “How can we make this better?” She brought thoughtful ideas to our team, strengthened her HR knowledge, and successfully completed her apprenticeship program. 👏

We are so proud of everything Ellie accomplished this summer and grateful that we had the opportunity to be part of her professional journey.

Today, we celebrate Ellie, her success, and all that lies ahead. Please join us in wishing her the very best as she heads back to UMF and begins her next chapter! 💙🎉

Congratulations, Ellie — we can’t wait to see where your future takes you!

On Women’s Equality Day, we’re remembering Dolly Parton, who passed away yesterday, and the women whose real-life experiences inspired her iconic song, “9 to 5.”

The song became an anthem for working women, shining a light on challenges including unequal pay, limited opportunities for advancement and a lack of recognition for their work.

More than 40 years later, the message still resonates.

As we remember Dolly and her remarkable legacy, Women’s Equality Day is a reminder of how far we’ve come and how important it is to create workplaces where everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed.
