Governor Matt Meyer proclaimed June as Gun Violence Awareness Month and reaffirmed Delaware's commitment to reducing violence, supporting victims, and building safer communities through prevention, intervention, and partnership. During the event, Governor Meyer also granted pardons to Cammerin Norwood and Kaligah Parker, two Delawareans who he commended for turning their "past into purpose" by "preventing violence, disrupting cycles of violence, and mentoring our youth."

"Gun violence is preventable,” said Governor Meyer. “Public safety is our most important responsibility. Every Delawarean deserves to feel safe in every neighborhood of our state." Through the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety, which the Governor established in the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Delaware is investing in community-based violence intervention programs, youth engagement initiatives, trauma-informed services, and partnerships with law enforcement and local groups to reduce violence and improve public safety.

The course provided valuable insight into the casualty care process and the Chaplain Corps' role in supporting Airmen and families during times of loss.

Participants also visited the Delaware Division of Forensic Science in Wilmington, where they learned about the forensic and mortuary procedures that support casualty operations and help ensure fallen service members are honored with dignity, respect, and professionalism. (Photo by Jason Minto)
