Describe: Our school has been open for seven years and we have aligned our philosophy and teaching practices to maximize academic achievement for all students. We teach through inquiry, realizing that students learn deeply when they are curious about the componen

ts of the world around them. Units of Inquiry have been aligned and build upon each other in relevance and rigor from prekindergarten through 5th grade to ensure that state standards are taught and overlaps in curriculum are avoided. We provide a world perspective, and aspire for students to learn that. Stellar Points: Our school has won multiple awards recently, including two awards from the Colorado Department of Educationβ€”the John Irwin Award given to schools that demonstrate excellent academic achievement and the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. We have been a high performing school in the state of Colorado since we opened. We are proud of the success of our school and the work we have done to fully implement the IB philosophy in our school. Special Offerings: IB, Early Childhood Program, Intensive Learning Center, world language (Spanish) instruction for all students, art, music, P.E., library/media, and computer lab

Extracurricular: Chess Club, Coyote Choir, All State Honor Choir, Run/Walk Club, Odyssey of the Mind (OM), Destination Imagination, Student Ambassadors, Lego Robotics, etc. Climate: Cohesive, collaborative, and interconnected staff; a spirit of doing "whatever it takes" for every student to succeed

Accomplishments: John Irwin Award, Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award, Classified Employee of the Year, principal received the Thompson School District Excellence Award, Chess team won many honors, OM team to state competition, student placed second in the district Spelling Bee

Partnerships: Rotary International – Polio fundraiser and connecting with schools in other countries

Parent/Volunteers: Over 6,000 hours of recorded volunteer time in our school, not a day passes when you don't see parents helping in classrooms; active and supportive School Accountability Committee (SAC) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
