Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the North Carolina mountains this afternoon, and again Monday afternoon. As a hotter and drier pattern sets in the rest of the week week, showers and storms will be more suppressed.

Heat and humidity should return this week, with triple digit heat index possible outside the mountains by Tuesday afternoon, and increasingly unbearable conditions continuing through the end of the week. Limit strenuous outdoor activity and stay hydrated!

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on Friday afternoon. Another round will develop on Saturday, but coverage will be more isolated. By Sunday and Monday, few storms will be able to develop, and a hot, humid pattern will set in for the new workweek.
