Tonight, the Hanson Fire Department had one of the most rewarding calls in our line of work.

Crews were dispatched to a local residence for a mother in active labor. Ambulance 2 quickly responded to the scene. Meanwhile, Ambulance 1, which was returning from a separate emergency, diverted providing immediate backup.

En route to the hospital, our crews successfully assisted delivering a healthy baby boy right in the back of the ambulance!

We want to extend a massive congratulations to the family on their beautiful new addition. Welcome to the world, little guy!

We are incredibly proud of the seamless teamwork, quick thinking, and professionalism displayed by our members tonight: FF Harris, FF Adams, FF Silva, and FF McKale.

We want to send a huge thank you and "great job" to the Public Safety Dispatchers at the Regional Old Colony Communications Center who calmly and expertly answered the call for this incident: PSD Christina Manning, PSD John Boncek, PSD Katlyn Abban, and PSD Ashley Joyce.

Today, Hanson Fire Engine 1 is providing coverage for the Town of Marshfield, allowing members of the Marshfield Fire Department to attend the services and honor the life and service of Captain William Shields.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Captain Shields’ family, friends, and the entire Marshfield Fire Department during this difficult time.

Protect, serve… and deliver groceries?

Earlier today, Hanson Fire and Hanson Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of East Washington St and State St.

The best news: after an EMS evaluation, zero injuries were reported!

The driver was in the middle of a grocery delivery route when the crash happened. Not wanting someone’s dinner to be delayed; Police Lieutenant Daley and Firefighter Heffernan stepped in as emergency delivery substitutes to personally finish the delivery run.

Imagine answering your door expecting your groceries and finding a Police Lieutenant and a Firefighter holding your bags!

We’re just happy everyone is safe, and we hope we earned a 5-star review on that drop-off. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Hanson Fire Department responded to assist Pembroke Fire with securing a landing zone in their town. Just after clearing a medical call Engine 1 was able to respond to Hobamock Arena to secure a landing zone for Boston Medflight.

Hanson Fire Department Extinguishes Main Street Apartment Fire, Responds to Multiple Calls During Busy Evening

HANSON — Fire Chief Robert O'Brien reports that the Hanson Fire Department extinguished a fire in a second-floor apartment on Main Street Wednesday evening that displaced two residents.

At approximately 5:14 p.m. on Aug. 12, the Hanson Fire Department was dispatched to 352 Main St. for a report of a fire in a second-floor apartment above a business.

At the time of the box alarm, Hanson Engine 1 was assisting the Town of Halifax with a water-related incident. Engine 1 cleared that call and responded back into Hanson, while Engine 2 responded directly from Hanson Fire Headquarters.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a cooking-related fire in the second-floor apartment. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Utilities to the building were shut off as a result of the fire. Two adult residents were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The first-floor business was temporarily closed during the response. Its showroom is expected to reopen Thursday.

Hanson firefighters were assisted at the scene by engines from the Whitman and Pembroke Fire Departments, a ladder truck from the Hanover Fire Department and an ambulance from the Plympton Fire Department. A Rockland Fire Department engine provided station coverage in Hanson.

While Hanson firefighters and mutual aid companies were committed to the Main Street fire, the Department received a report of a separate medical emergency at 303 West Washington St. at approximately 6:17 p.m. The Rockland engine covering Hanson, along with a mutual aid ambulance, responded to the call.

Later in the evening, at approximately 7:11 p.m., a Hanson engine responded to provide station coverage for the Whitman Fire Department.

"I want to thank our Hanson firefighters and all of our mutual aid partners for their work Wednesday evening," said Chief O'Brien. "With one of our engines already assisting another community when this fire was reported, our crews and mutual aid partners worked together to ensure we had the resources needed at the fire while continuing to provide emergency coverage for Hanson and our neighboring communities."

Overnight, on-duty crews deployed to East Bridgewater to assist on Washington St at what quickly escalated to a 2nd alarm fire.

While our primary crews were mutual-aid in East Bridgewater, off-duty Hanson firefighters called in to cover the town responded to a motor vehicle accident on Hudson St near the East Bridgewater line.

Scheduled road work is set to begin at the Main Street at MBTA Crossing, work is scheduled to start on Friday night, July 31st.

⚠️ Be advised that traffic delays are possible starting Friday night and are expected to continue into Saturday.

🚨Gas Main Struck🚨
The Hanson Fire Department and Eversource Gas are currently on scene following a struck gas main in the Maquan Street area.

🛑 Route 14 (Maquan St) will be closed to through-traffic for a period of time while crews work.
-Please avoid the area to allow emergency personnel and utility crews room to work safely and restore normal service.

Out of an abundance of caution, nearby homes have been evacuated. Eversource is actively mitigating the situation, and there is no danger to the surrounding public beyond the immediate work area.

A few quick reminders from our crews:
Leave the Fireworks to the Pros: Please remember that all consumer fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts. Enjoy the professional displays in our surrounding areas instead!
Grill Safety: Keep your grills well away from siding, deck railings, and overhanging branches. Never leave a lit grill unattended, and keep a safe zone around it for kids and pets.
Fire Pits: If you are having a backyard campfire, keep it small and away from structures. Always have a garden hose or bucket of water nearby, and make sure the fire is completely extinguished before heading inside for the night.

Our personnel are on duty today and every day. If you have an emergency, we will be there.
