On Friday, another legislative session officially came to a close, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who made it possible.

To my staff — Cassie, Nanea, Kyung, Luke, and Clare — mahalo for the long hours, late nights, problem solving, laughter, flexibility, and heart you brought to this work every single day. So much of what happens at the Capitol is powered by dedicated staff working behind the scenes, and I could not do this work without this incredible team.

This session, we worked hard to move forward priorities for our communities — from food security and biosecurity, to economic opportunity, and support for Native Hawaiians and local families. We were also proud to support the work of our House Majority Caucus and help move forward priorities that serve communities across Hawaiʻi.

Session may be over, but the work continues. I’m deeply humbled and grateful for this team, and for everyone who continues to believe in public service and showing up for our communities.

Conference Committee is here
and we’re ready!

In Hawaiʻi, conference is where House and Senate members come together to reconcile differences between our bills and reach agreement on final versions before session ends. It’s one of the most important parts of the legislative process, where collaboration, negotiation, and hard decisions shape the policies that move forward for our communities.

Looking forward to working with colleagues in both chambers to deliver meaningful results for our districts and our Hawaiʻi. Let’s get to work.

Happy Conference!

It is always a good day when Rep. Shirley Templo and I show up in sync—same vibe, same energy, and the same commitment to doing the work for our communities.

In the middle of long days and big decisions, moments like this remind me how important it is to stay connected, support one another, and find a little joy along the way. 💚

See repost from DOE regarding school closures this week due to storm damage at Konawaena Middle School, Konawaena High School, and Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education is continuing to assess impacts to campuses statewide following a second Kona Low storm that brought additional heavy rain and localized flooding.

As a result of storm impacts and safety concerns, several schools on Hawai‘i Island, O‘ahu and Molokai will be closed on Monday, March 23, or for the week of March 23-27.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

Grateful for moments like this that bring our House members together — a reminder that even a little bit of hope and luck can brighten the day.

As we move bills forward ahead of our next deadline this week, it’s a good reminder that even in our busiest days, there’s always space to connect and come together. 💚

What an incredible evening at Kahakai School’s Multicultural Night!

My daughter and I had the BEST time celebrating the rich diversity of our community. From the stunning Filipino cultural dance performance by her kumu — colorful costumes, big smiles, and so much joy — to the beautiful student-made flags lining the walls, tonight was a reminder of just how vibrant and special our Kahakai ’ohana truly is.

Seeing our keiki proudly display their heritage and learn about cultures from around the world fills my heart. THIS is our vibrant community that makes Kona so special.

Mahalo to the incredible teachers, families, and students who made tonight so memorable. And a special shoutout to my dear friend, Jane Clement, who started the first multicultural night, 20 years ago. ❤️💛

Mahalo to Kahakai School for hosting SFA Parent Day. Grateful for the 5-day recess that allowed me to pop back into my community and learn more about how SFA (Success for All) is strengthening reading skills for our students.

It was also really special to see a little bit of what my daughter Kawai gets to experience at school each day.

In between our class visit, I had the chance to hear from teachers, administrators, and fellow parents about the needs of our school community.

Staying connected to our schools matters — listening, learning, and showing up for our keiki.

Neighbor island life means family visits to the Capitol are rare. My ʻohana is my why—they keep me grounded and accountable so our families can continue to call Hawaiʻi home. Mahalo to my brother and sister-in-law for coming today. 💙
