I had a great time at Mililani High School celebrating the opening of the nation's first MEERA (Manufacturing and Engineering Education Reimagined for All) high school lab! MEERA gives students hands-on experience with advanced manufacturing, engineering, and skilled trades, helping prepare them for future careers right here in Hawaiʻi. I even had the chance to test my skills on the virtual reality welding simulator—and scored 80%! Congratulations to Mililani High School and everyone who helped bring this innovative learning space to life. I can't wait to see what these students create next!

Twenty-five years ago, the world changed forever. The bright skyline of New York City lost two of its brightest lights, Arlington, Virginia, was shaken, and a small field in Pennsylvania became the grave of 33 selfless Americans. They were husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters, and after all these years, we still say their names and remember their sacrifice. May we never forget the events that unfolded 25 years ago, and may the memory of 9/11 encourage us never to take our moments for granted.

This week, I joined Principal Horstman and Vice Principal Domingo at Kipapa Elementary to continue conversations about student pedestrian safety. We resurveyed the crosswalks and signage around campus and discussed ways to enhance safety for students and families. Ensuring our keiki have a safe journey to and from school remains a top priority.

I am honored to serve CSG West as the Vice Chair of the organization. I enjoyed attending the CSG West Annual Meeting and connecting with legislators, policy leaders, and stakeholders from across the region. From thoughtful discussions and shared learning opportunities to participating in a panel conversation on leadership, it was a valuable chance to exchange ideas and explore solutions to the challenges facing our communities.

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted, marking the beginning of a nation built on hope, courage, and the belief in a brighter future.

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor the generations who have shaped our country and the communities that continue to make it strong today.

It has been an amazing athletic year for Mililani High School and I couldn’t be more proud! I had the pleasure of attending this years OIA Banquet where MHS was honored for their State Championship Teams - Baseball and Softball, and Runner Up Teams - Girls Golf, Boys Swimming and Diving, and Girls Flag Football. Congratulations to all of the hard-working students, staff, and families for your dedication and support!
