TONIGHT!

Per my request in a recent call with DOT, DOT will be temporarily closing the Kaneohe-bound Likelike Highway lines TONIGHT to string emergency lights through the Wilson Tunnel and paint fresh pavement markings to help with visibility when entering the tunnel. We expect power to be restored within the next two weeks. I've also asked DOT to look at whether emergency lights are needed town-bound through Wilson Tunnels.

The Kaneohe-bound lanes will be closed from 8 PM TONIGHT through 4 AM.

TODAY!

Rep Kitagawa and I are sponsoring a FREE legal clinic in collaboration with the Hawaii State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. Local volunteer attorneys (including myself) will answer questions, offer general legal information, and provide resources on a variety of topics from family law, estate planning and more! We will also have a FREE notary available from 12 PM to 2 PM. It will be first come, first serve. No appointments necessary!

We will be stationed on the 2nd floor in the Target wing, right across from the claw machine arcade! Stop by for information or ask questions to get resources from our licensed attorneys.

All volunteers are licensed to practice law in Hawaii. Services provided at this clinic do NOT automatically create an attorney-client relationship with any of our volunteers. See you all today at the farmer's market!

The lights out in Wilson Tunnels creates a dangerous situation, especially during the daytime when most cars do not have their headlights on and are unprepared for the sudden darkness. I spoke with DOT, requesting they string lights inside at least the first 20 feet of Wilson Tunnel, where the tunnel curves and where the darkness is sudden. HECO estimates it will take another two weeks to restore power to the tunnels. DOT is going to try to run a long power cable from the outside generator lights to power lights in the first parts of the tunnels. They will also look into refresh the striping inside to help with visibility. My office will update the community once a schedule has been set. I am frustrated this dangerous situation is dragging out.

HECO has notified my office that Wilson Tunnel will be on a long-term outage until they can retrieve the transmission line. Due to fallen trees from Tropical Storm Lala, the transmission lines were affected and lights are out in the tunnel. Estimated time for repairs is 2-3 weeks. Please drive with caution through the tunnel. My office will post updates as we receive them.

Mahalo to IBEW 1186 for hosting a blood drive at its union hall! Hawaii imports blood from the mainland because we do not have enough donors here. Surprising, given how generous and caring our population is. With a critical shortage on the mainland, the blood bank is desperately short of blood. Please donate if you are able.

Today, as the storm approached, we celebrated the State Health Planning and Development Agency’s (SHPDA) 50th birthday. In the words of Jack Lewin, SHPDA is the most important department that no one’s ever heard about. Especially now, with our healthcare systems struggling, SHPDA plays a vital role in making sure healthcare is accessible, high-quality, and cost-effective.
