Save the date for another Windward Going Green Recycling event at Castle High School! 🙂 Representatives Lisa Kitagawa, Mike Lee and I will be hosting another e-waste recycling drive on Saturday, June 20th. This is a great chance to recycle those old electronics taking up space around the house. We are also taking clothing, eyeglasses, and other items to donate. For more information on what items will be accepted, please see the flyer. If you have any questions about what you can and cannot donate, feel free to contact my office.

I had the opportunity to meet the Longnecks Awesomenecks this week, a team of local homeschool students who competed in the 2026 FIRST LEGO League World Championships in Houston. They won the Best Team Model Award for their robot, and I had the chance to talk with them in the House Chamber about their experience. I asked how they came up with their team's name and they said it was inspired by dinosaurs. They showed me pictures of their robot, and I was very impressed by their hard work and creativity!

Mahalo to Hawaiian Telcom for responding to my request to fill the holes next to their utility poles in front of Castle High School. And thank you to the Castle High School students who let me know about them at the last Kaneohe Neighborhood Board meeting!

This morning, I had the pleasure of honoring Aunty Momi Akana, one of the founders of Keiki O Ka Aina, at KOKA’s 30th preschool graduation and Ho’ike. KOKA has been educating both keiki and their parents for generations, making a lasting impact on our communities through lessons rooted in Hawaiian language, traditions and values. Congratulations to KOKA and Aunty Momi on this 30 year milestone!

The Ben Parker Elementary School May Day performance was wonderful! Great weather and the students clearly worked hard on their performances. Every grade did well, but I have to say, the kindergarteners stole the show with their dances! Mahalo to the school for inviting me and to all the teachers, staff and parents who made it all possible.

Kaneohe library is open again! My sons and I visited this morning and borrowed an armful of books. I was also able to see the ADA stall issue that’s been plaguing the reopening. Working on a permanent fix, but in the meantime nearly all library services are up and running. Full parking lot, so the word is out that we have our library back.

The Windward Community College was inspiring, even when moved indoors because of the rain. These graduates overcame so much and worked so hard to be there. It is a testament to their continued contribution to our community in whatever careers they pursue. Mahalo to WCC for the invitation and for putting together an amazing and well-deserved graduation ceremony. And congratulations to the graduates!
