Nebraska Civic Engagement Table

Nebraska Civic Engagement Table We work with nonprofits to build transformative, inclusive community power across Nebraska.

The “Nebraska Table” is a statewide nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose goal is to build an electorate representative of all Nebraskans - where everyone is able to participate in the democratic process and members of the rising electorate have their voices heard in the policymaking decisions that affect their lives, their families, and their communities. We will accomplish this by creating a

culture of year-round civic engagement and strengthening the nonprofit community through collaboration, training, and leadership development. We will build a more just, inclusive, and engaged Nebraska by increasing the year-round civic participation of our nonprofit members’ supporters and the “rising electorate” that includes: African-Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, new citizens, low-income families, women, LGBT Nebraskans, young voters, and forward-thinking citizens. Our goal is to increase their share of voter turnout, ensure their voices are represented in the policy decisions that affect their lives, and build leadership among community members and our nonprofit partners. The Nebraska Table will ensure grassroots organizations with deep community connections can access the civic engagement tools and resources they need to engage with voters. We will provide currently unavailable core capacity and technical support for Nebraska nonprofit organizations, prioritizing a data-driven approach to civic engagement and communications strategies, facilitating a culture of collaboration between nonprofit partners, convening leadership to share best practices, and reducing duplication of efforts.

We're so happy to welcome this year's Advocacy and Organizing Fellow Thea to Nebraska Table!

She is a recent graduate from Carleton College, where she majored in psychology with a minor in theater arts. By going beyond classroom discussions of human behavior and spending time with organizations that provide support to immigrant and youth populations, she developed a keen interest in how systemic problems interfere with an individual’s ability to thrive. Thea is excited to learn more about the local landscape while contributing to Nebraska Table’s mission of strengthening people power.

This week we brought together passionate organizers from across the state to strengthen skills and reinforce strategy as part of the New Deal for Organizing. This in-depth training, presented in partnership from Alliance for Youth Organizing, Midwest Academy, and State Voices, takes a holistic approach to fundamental tactics that help organizers effectively build toward a vision of justice for our communities.
