HSC-11 was honored to host Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command Vice Admiral Kilby at the squadron last week. He held a discussion regarding future Navy and HSC missions with the wardroom, during which Junior Officers were encouraged to ask any questions they had. He also stopped by the Line Shack and AVI to recognize AD1 Stahl, AE2 Erickson, and AT2 Haefli for their hard work and gave each of them a coin. Slayers enjoyed meeting Vice Admiral Kilby and showing him what it means to Slay On!

For the first time in three years, the galley hosted the CSC School Grand Buffet. CS2 Palmer, who is TAD to the galley, baked and presented the cake at this event. She was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal yesterday for all of her hard work. She was also chosen as our Slayer of the week today! The biggest lessons she’s learned at the galley have been how to manage, how to utilize equipment properly, and how to work under pressure. Her favorite activity to do there is baking. CS2 Palmer would like to give a shout-out to YN1 Clark and all of HSC-11 for always supporting her. Slay On, CS2! 🐉⚡️🎂

Golden hour / Pinkie time 🌅

OS3 Browne directs LT Samaniego via hand signals to let him know that someone is on the tail after he performs the engine water checklist. During this procedure, the engine starter is engaged while water is dispensed into the engine, and the engine is then dried out. Routine water washes improve engine performance and increase their life cycles. Yet another example of the Slayer team working together to keep our aircraft good to go!

This past week’s Slayer of the week is AO2 Smith. AO2 Smith enjoys working in the Line Shack because he gets to have fun with the younger Sailors and teach them about the Navy. He’s known for enforcing instructions and teaching Sailors do’s and dont’s! He joined the Navy to change his life for the better. As an AO, he has loaded ordnance, performed maintenance on guns, loaded Hellfire Missiles, and more, all while working under a time crunch and still doing it efficiently. We appreciate all that you do, AO2! Slay On!

Meet our Slayer of the week: newly Frocked PS1 Maple! PS1(SW) Maple is known throughout the command as one of the friendly faces of Admin customer service. He’s always quick to put Sailors first, with a smile, no matter what. Learning and being able to teach junior Sailors is the reason he loves being a Personnel Specialist. His next goal is working towards getting release authority for HSC-11, which will help expedite pay transactions for the command. He would like to give a shout-out to PS3 Pace and PS3 Taulapapa for all of their hard work in ensuring Slayers’ pay needs are met. Slay On, PS1 Maple! 🐉⚡️

This week’s Slayer of the week is ATAN Fields. When there is work to be done, she’s the first to move and make it happen. Her favorite part of her job is the people in the line shack, to whom she’d like to give a shout-out for their constant support. She’s wanted to work on helicopters ever since someone told her about what it was like to work on aircraft, and she’s loved it ever since. On deployment, she enjoyed learning about the flight deck. Now she is working hard to learn how to conduct daily and turnaround inspections. Slay On, ATAN Fields! 🐉⚡️

Meet AD3 Onimus: a highly motivated Aviation Machinist’s Mate and last week’s Slayer of the week! AD3 Onimus joined the Navy due to her family history of military service. Her favorite part of deployment was the bonding and cohesiveness between all of the shops on the flight deck. As an AD, she is responsible for duties that range from shutdowns and water washes to inspecting and replacing aircraft components. She’s known for having worked hard to learn this rate and expand her knowledge. She would like to give a shout-out to AM1 Benner and AM2 Tanner for their guidance and leadership. We’re lucky to have you, AD3! Slay On! 🐉⚡️

Meet last week’s Slayer of the week, ATAN Tolnay! A native of Indiana, he joined the Navy to see the world. Prior to joining, he was an electrician, and now he works on the computer components of the aircraft to make sure everything we need is loaded properly. He’s known by his peers as a hard charger. He shows up to work eager to learn and pushes to get his qualifications.

His favorite parts of deployment were the port calls and getting to see the jets and helicopters in action. He’d like to give a shout-out to his dad for his constant support. Slay On, ATAN Tolnay!

Last week’s Slayer of the week is LT Samaniego, HSC-11’s newest Helicopter Aircraft Commander (HAC)! His interest in flying started with a fascination with aviation followed by a ride in a small plane with a civilian instructor. His favorite part of the squadron is the amazing people he works with, and how inspiring it is to be around a group that works so hard to accomplish the mission. He would like to give a shout-out to fellow JOPA members for helping him become a HAC, and to the Line Shack for working so hard every day to complete what the flight schedule requires. Slay On, LT Samaniego!

Meet this week’s Slayer of the week: HM2 Alley. She’s been a corpsman for 6 years and aircrew for a little over two. Her favorite part of being an Search and Rescue Medical Technician (SMT) is the increased responsibility that comes with being the medical expert in the aircraft. She also appreciates that this is a community that takes care of you if you put in the effort. Her advice for anyone interested in the SMT route: “Keep an open mind and know that this job can entail many things. Be willing to put in the work required.” HM2 Alley would like to give a shout-out to HM2 Cleveland for molding her into an SMT, and to HM3 White and all the aircrew at 11 for their support. Slay On, HM2! 🐉 ⚡️

PR3 Devin Smith is this week’s Slayer of the week! He’s known for working hard to earn his Plane Captain qualification and as someone who can always be counted on when it comes to working on life saving PR gear. His favorite memory from deployment was being on the flight deck to see a helicopter land on the carrier for the first time. He also enjoyed playing video games with his friends in the squadron. Meet last week’s Slayer of the week, AT2 Crowder! AT2 Crowder is a known mentor who leads by example, accomplishes any job she’s given, and possesses a high level of expertise in her shop. Her favorite part of her job is the mentorship she’s able to provide junior sailors. She appreciates their excitement and the sailor-to-sailor connection here. Her favorite part of this squadron is the people, and her biggest inspiration if her father, who is a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant. Khakigiving (kah-kee-giv-ing), noun:

An annual holiday event at which khaki leadership prepare a Thanksgiving feast for all members of the squadron in an effort to say thanks for all that they do!
This year’s Khakigiving started at 0500 last Friday, when the turkey team began to fry eleven () turkeys for the squadron. Needless to say, Slayers did not leave hungry. Thank you to all the khaki members and their spouses who helped make Khakigiving happen! 🦃

Meet AM3 Benedict, our Slayer of the week! AM3 Benedict is a known hard worker who maintains a constant motivation to accomplish any job. His favorite part of this past deployment was going to new areas with his best friends via port calls. He also enjoyed that deployment allowed him to be away from distractions and focus on himself with the resources that the carrier and squadron offered. Swipe to see some photos of AM3 slaying at work, during port calls, and with other Slayers!
