We got the awesome opportunity last night to honor one of our key Slayers, Gabby Widdrington, HSC-11’s OMBUDSMAN at the Hampton Roads OMBUDSMAN appreciation dinner. Gabby not only takes care of her family but voluntarily takes care of 228 Slayer families and is the point of contact and conduit for information between them and the Command. Our Slayer families are absolutely essential to the health and well-being of our Sailors and in turn, a critical component to executing our warfighting mission. Our OMBUDSMAN works tirelessly in order to ensure our families have what they need and receive timely and accurate information. From all of us here in Slayerland, THANK YOU! Gabby Widdrington for taking care of us and our families. SLAY ON!
Ropes away! The Dragonslayers are hard at work as we progress through the Helicopter Advanced Readiness Program (HARP). HARP is the first of many work ups HSC-11 will complete as we prepare for deployment. Thank you to US Coast Guard MSRT for helping bud get some quality training aboard the Cape Avinof in the James River Reserve Fleet!
Congratulations to LS3 Chery, our newest Slayer Of The Week! From Jacksonville, FL. LS3 has been with the Slayers for less than a year. She appreciates the Triad’s transparency of communication and their empowerment of junior Sailors to freely express themselves. LS3 enjoys being an LS as she’s able to support all Slayers in their logistic needs and provide customer service. LS3 enjoys being able to empower junior Sailors which caused her to start the CSADD association in order to provide more positivity and enhance the squadron’s morale. LS3 would like to give a shoutout to LSSN Hinton for always encouraging her to work harder while leading by example. Slay on LS3! ⚡️🐉
This past week the Slayers were presented with the Golden Wrench Award for our outstanding maintenance teams efforts! We also held quarterly awards ceremony. Congratulations to all the Slayers that were recognized!! 🐉⚡️

Introducing the newest Slayer to receive their warfare pin, LTJG Dan Witte! LTJG Witte grew up in Lincoln, NE and commissioned in the Navy after graduating from Northwestern University in 2020. Serving as the Dragonslaying Intel Officer Witte enjoys diving deep into research and analysis of threats and weapon systems, compiling the information and incorporating his areas of expertise into flight planning and mission briefing. In order to earn an Information Warfare (IW) pin one must complete a Personnel Qualification Syllabus (PQS) that covers knowledge from the various designators within the IW community. After completing the syllabus they must pass an oral board consisting of members from within these various designators. LTJG Witte completed this rigorous process and has earned the right to wear an Information Warfare pin. Congratulations and SLAY ON LTJG Witte!!
Yesterday HSC-11 conducted a reenlistment ceremony for AWF2 Vega Pastrana. He has served the Dragonslayers with honor and distinction and will always be known for his professionalism, competence and ability to keep conversation flowing during long plane guard flights. If you see AD2 Kornmiller around give her a pat on the back because she’s our newest Slayer of the Week! Meet this week’s Slayer of the week: AT1 Spence! AT1 came to the U.S. from Russia when she was adopted. She joined the Navy to be able to provide for her children and give them a better life. Prior to coming to 11 in 2021, she worked in I-Level for about ten years. She knew she wanted to do something different so she asked to come to 11, where she started in AVI and then moved to QA. When she first got here, she had to start from scratch and work hard to get her quals so that she could be useful as a first class. Now she’s know for being an awesome QAR who is always ready to help others! Her favorite part about being here is the community and the deployments. She appreciates how they allowed for people to get to know one another closely from working together every day. She’d like to give a shout-out to the AT shop and QA. Slay On, AT1!!! 🐉 ⚡️
Meet our Slayers of the week for the past month, starting with AO3 Weatherly! AO3 comes from a unique background, as he spent his childhood on a farm in Loudon, Tennessee while working interesting jobs such as CNC Routing and laser engraving. AO3 decided to join the Navy when he turned 17 to continue the family tradition. As an AO, he enjoys working on the crew served weapons. He specifically enjoys disassembling, installing, and cleaning the weapons while working with his shop. He would like to give a shout-out to the AO shop for always working hard on the daily grind and making each day a very enjoyable experience. Slay On AO3!!
Next is LS2 McNabb. LS2 McNabb joined the Slayers two years ago from HSC Wing Pacific and happily returned to his hometown of Norfolk, VA. His favorite part about being a Slayer is getting to work with a great group of people. Known for having a smiling face and easy going attitude, LS2 McNabb loves getting to interact with different people each day while serving in the supply shop. He wants to give a shout-out to Chief White, CWO3 Suazo and everyone in the supply shop for helping him get to where he is today. SLAY ON LS2!! 🐉⚡️
Our next selected Slayer of the week is AD2 Ghigliotty. AD2 Ghigliotty was born in Puerto Rico and joined the Navy after receiving his bachelor’s degree in networks and telecommunications from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. While attending university, AD2 Ghigliotty found a love for aviation and got his private pilot license from a local airport during his studies. He joined the Navy and followed that love for aviation by working on rotary aircraft. While he loves his job he has other aspirations to eventually become an E-2 pilot. We look forward to great things to come and as always SLAY ON AD2!! 🐉⚡️

On June 9th HSC-11 held a frocking ceremony to celebrate all our Sailors that recently promoted. Skipper Farwell awarded each Sailor his or her promotion letter as their families and the Slayers watched and cheered. Each of these Sailors demonstrates every day what it means to serve the US Navy with honor and distinction. Congratulations Slayers!!!
HSC-11 was honored to host Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command Vice Admiral Kilby at the squadron last week. He held a discussion regarding future Navy and HSC missions with the wardroom, during which Junior Officers were encouraged to ask any questions they had. He also stopped by the Line Shack and AVI to recognize AD1 Stahl, AE2 Erickson, and AT2 Haefli for their hard work and gave each of them a coin. Slayers enjoyed meeting Vice Admiral Kilby and showing him what it means to Slay On!
For the first time in three years, the galley hosted the CSC School Grand Buffet. CS2 Palmer, who is TAD to the galley, baked and presented the cake at this event. She was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal yesterday for all of her hard work. She was also chosen as our Slayer of the week today! The biggest lessons she’s learned at the galley have been how to manage, how to utilize equipment properly, and how to work under pressure. Her favorite activity to do there is baking. CS2 Palmer would like to give a shout-out to YN1 Clark and all of HSC-11 for always supporting her. Slay On, CS2! 🐉⚡️🎂
Golden hour / Pinkie time 🌅
OS3 Browne directs LT Samaniego via hand signals to let him know that someone is on the tail after he performs the engine water checklist. During this procedure, the engine starter is engaged while water is dispensed into the engine, and the engine is then dried out. Routine water washes improve engine performance and increase their life cycles. Yet another example of the Slayer team working together to keep our aircraft good to go!

This past week’s Slayer of the week is AO2 Smith. AO2 Smith enjoys working in the Line Shack because he gets to have fun with the younger Sailors and teach them about the Navy. He’s known for enforcing instructions and teaching Sailors do’s and dont’s! He joined the Navy to change his life for the better. As an AO, he has loaded ordnance, performed maintenance on guns, loaded Hellfire Missiles, and more, all while working under a time crunch and still doing it efficiently. We appreciate all that you do, AO2! Slay On!

He’s always quick to put Sailors first, with a smile, no matter what. Learning and being able to teach junior Sailors is the reason he loves being a Personnel Specialist. His next goal is working towards getting release authority for HSC-11, which will help expedite pay transactions for the command. He would like to give a shout-out to PS3 Pace and PS3 Taulapapa for all of their hard work in ensuring Slayers’ pay needs are met. Slay On, PS1 Maple! 🐉⚡️

This week’s Slayer of the week is ATAN Fields. When there is work to be done, she’s the first to move and make it happen. Her favorite part of her job is the people in the line shack, to whom she’d like to give a shout-out for their constant support. She’s wanted to work on helicopters ever since someone told her about what it was like to work on aircraft, and she’s loved it ever since. On deployment, she enjoyed learning about the flight deck. Now she is working hard to learn how to conduct daily and turnaround inspections. Slay On, ATAN Fields! 🐉⚡️
