Last week, our Complete Streets Advisory Group (CSAG) visited North Ave to get a tour of the North Avenue Signals & Safety project from the project team for their annual project walkthrough. CSAG provides feedback and guidance to help align projects with the principals identified in the City’s Complete Street Policy and to recommend changes, as necessary, to achieve future goals.

This week, our crews worked around the City to make our communities safer and stronger, including:

-Upgraded crosswalks at the intersection of First Avenue and Wood Street complete with detectable surfaces and curb ramps
-Traffic Signal Crews repair the traffic signal at East Ohio Street and 31st Street after all three lights went out
-Bridge Maintenance Team makes repairs on the Pennsylvania Ave Bridge
-Our electricians diagnosed and repaired some corroded contacts that caused flashing lights outside the Armstrong Tunnel

On September 11, we pause to remember those we lost and honor the first responders, public servants, and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage.

Their example reminds us of the importance of public service: showing up, taking care of one another, and working every day to make our communities safer and stronger.

Rialto Street in Troy Hill is expected to close next Monday for 1-2 months during repairs to the Lowrie Street Bridge.

The bridge's superstructure was replaced in 2020-2021, but Pittsburgh Mobility and Infrastructure will be repairing the abutments, which support each end of the bridge.

Rialto will be closed from Ley Street to Route 28 to vehicles, but remains open for pedestrians. The Lowrie Street Bridge is expected to remain open throughout construction.

Warning-Only period for Automated Red Light Enforcement at East General Robinson Street and Anderson Street begins on 9/11/2026. During the warning-only period, no monetary citations will be issued. Citation period for all three currently installed automated enforcement intersections begins on 10/11/2026

It's Friday, Pittsburgh. Monday is Labor Day, we're going to be taking the day off to think about the hardworking people that, among other things, make our roads work. If you're traveling for the long weekend, be safe and plan for traffic.

We hope you like crosswalks...

Because we re-striped a ton of them this week!
-Check out this stunning crosswalk with fresh pavement, curb ramps, and detectable surfaces in the South Side Flats (Sidney St. & S 20th St.)
-Concrete work continues at the updates to Termon Ave. traffic calming on Termon Ave. in Brighton Heights
-Our traffic team re-striping the existing crosswalk at Ross St. and Third Ave. in the Central Business District
-Lastly, some fresh surfaces in Banksville on Carnahan Rd. with fresh paint as well

Happy Friday! We love road work! We almost love it more than when the road works!

Here's some favorites from this week:
-Termon Ave's traffic calming is getting touched up after being one of the first corridor-sized traffic calming projects in the City!
-Market Street's traffic signal unit got righted to its correct orientation after being knocked sideways.
-Bricked crosswalks in the North Shore were repainted for visibility.
-And finally, our line painting team aided Public Works and Public Safety by lining and signing the parking lot at the newly remodeled Engine/Truck 8 Station and Zone 5 Police Station on N Euclid Ave in East Liberty.
