The Labor Day weekend will bring cool and showery conditions as well as isolated thunderstorms. On Sunday and Monday there is a marginal risk (5-15% chance) of heavy rain in the green shaded area on the map covering the Idaho Panhandle and extreme eastern Washington.

The next upper weather disturbance is pushing inland and will continue to lead to shower development this evening, in isolated to scattered fashion, before becoming a little more numerous overnight and early Thursday. A few embedded t-storms possible too.

Rain and wind, some t-storm chances and cooler temperatures—maybe a bit of frost(?) All are in the forecast for the next few days.

Winds will increase from the south Wednesday afternoon into the early evening. The strongest winds are expected across the Columbia Basin, Waterville Plateau, and Okanogan Valley. Main impacts will be strong crosswinds on west-east highways, reduced visibility from blowing dust, and chopping lakes. This will also blow around any unsecured lightweight items. Use caution is driving across eastern Washington tomorrow!

Weather trends warmer and drier for Monday and Tuesday before a more active weather pattern begins as early as Tuesday evening. Temperatures cool into the 60s and 70s for Wednesday and Thursday with breezy winds. This will be the first period of the beginning of Meteorological Fall we may see widespread rain!! Woo hoo! Below is the probability of 0.10 inches of precipitation between 5AM Wednesday and 5AM Friday.

We are especially interested in any reports over eastern Douglas, northwest Lincoln and northeast Grant County from the late morning to early afternoon when some of the stronger t-storms came by. Thank you.

[8/29/26 11:50 AM EDIT 12:19 PM - this has been cancelled as the storm has weakened]: We issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a possible tornado or funnel cloud to the southwest of Steamboat Rock State Park. Sudden gusty winds and reduced visibility from blowing dust are expected. If you are in the area and have any reports, please let us know!
