When we think about our school values, Los Hermanos immediately comes to mind.

A huge thank you to Aris and Raymond Compres for their delicious food, warm hospitality, and the care they bring to every event. From Staff PDs to Graduations and so many celebrations in between, Los Hermanos has been a beloved part of countless TNS memories.

As we celebrate 30 years, we’re excited to highlight local flavors. La Coop Coffee Co opened its Kennedy St. location in November 2024 and roasts its Guatemala single-origin coffee several times a week.

Day 2 of the Go See Tour Newark, NJ 2026 was full of learning, creativity, and new experiences! 🎓✨

Yesterday, our students toured New Jersey Institute of Technology and Essex County College, getting a closer look at college life and future opportunities. We ended the day at GlassRoots, where students got hands-on with beadmaking, mosaics, and glass fusing.

TNS got together for a memorable night at DC Charter School Night at Nationals Park! ⚾️

Students and staff enjoyed a fun evening of baseball, community, and celebration alongside other DC public charter schools as the Washington Nationals took home a 9–6 win over the New York Mets.

We are proud to be part of a strong charter school community that continues to support students, families, and lifelong learning across DC.

Estudiantes y personal disfrutaron de una divertida velada de béisbol, comunidad y celebración, junto a otras escuelas chárter públicas de DC, mientras los Washington Nationals se llevaban una victoria de 9-6 sobre los New York Mets.

Estamos orgullosos de formar parte de una sólida comunidad de escuelas chárter que continúa apoyando a los estudiantes, a las familias y al aprendizaje a lo largo de toda la vida en todo DC.

Last night, the DC Public Charter School Board voted to renew The Next Step PCS charter! 🎉

This milestone comes during our 30th Anniversary year and honors three decades of transformation, resilience, and community. Since 1996, The Next Step PCS has been proud to serve as DC’s first adult public charter school, providing young people and adult learners with the educational opportunities they deserve.

From our beginnings as the Teen Parent Program at LAYC to serving approximately 500 students today, our mission remains the same: supporting learners as they earn their GED, strengthen their English skills, prepare for careers, and take their next step toward college, trade school, and beyond.

Thank you to our students, staff, board, partners, families, and supporters for making this achievement possible. This renewal is not just a celebration of our past. It is a commitment to the future of our learners and our community.
