Congress must reassert Article I authority to declare war – especially after decades of presidents expanding their own war powers. After voting consistently in favor of four Iran War Powers Resolutions, I voted for a War Powers Resolution to constrain President Trump in Lebanon and keep the United States out of forever wars in the Middle East. While the Resolution wasn’t perfect, it is imperative that Congress stands up to the President and acknowledges the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. We must continue to work across diplomatic channels to ensure the security of our U.S. embassies, support the people of Lebanon, and stand with the Lebanese Armed Forces in their efforts to defeat Hezbollah – an enemy of the United States and a violent terrorist organization.

Democratic leaders came out against the resolution before the vote, saying they favor another one introduced by Tlaib on Wednesday.

🌳Our national parks preserve and protect centuries (and sometimes millenia) of diverse stories and history from every corner of our country. Yet over the past 18 months, the Trump Administration has undertaken unprecedented actions to attack and insert partisan politics into our park service. I joined National Parks Conservation Association President Tiernan Sittenfeld at their United by Parks celebration with Comptroller of Maryland to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our national parks for generations to come. The 250th anniversary of our nation reminds us that we all have a role to play in protecting our national treasures so they can be enjoyed by our neighbors for the next 250!

Last year, when swastikas and nooses were downgraded from prohibited “hate symbols” to “potentially divisive” imagery, it was clear we needed to clarify our laws. There are many nuanced and complex policy issues up for debate today – this is not one of them. That’s why I supported ’s amendment to require that these clear symbols of hate be banned from our military. Good news: the amendment was adopted!

Having represented the for eight years, I’ve seen firsthand the impact that cultural, religious, academic, and identity-based student organizations have made on our midshipmen – preparing them to handle complex missions and lead diverse teams around the globe. As we debate the NDAA, I spoke in favor of amendment to allow these organizations to continue developing and supporting the next generation of well-rounded leaders — despite Secretary Hegseth’s ridiculous “war on DEI.”

Before heading back to Washington, I stopped by Carr’s beach to deliver Carlson’s donuts to the incredible students in the Annapolis High School Surfrider Club who were spending their Saturday morning cleaning up the historic beach! 🍩We can all be stewards for our public lands, and I’m so grateful for their work to preserve our beaches and local history.

Big News: After 95 days of President Trump’s war, a few House Republicans finally joined Democrats to pass a bipartisan War Powers Resolution to end hostilities in Iran. We cannot continue down the road of this costly, unpopular, and unjustified war.

The House passed a largely symbolic war powers resolution Wednesday over objections from Republican leaders that it would “weaken the president’s hand” in negotiations with Iran.

ICYMI: Last week, we cut the ribbon on the first of dozens of Maryland Whole Watershed projects! These projects will mitigate runoff for 6+ acres of land right here in Annapolis. The Whole Watershed Act was the culmination of years of work in the Maryland State Senate, as we asked ourselves how we could be bolder, move faster, and think bigger about our Chesapeake Bay restoration. This work is only possible because of the incredible state, local, and nonprofit partners – including , , , , , and more – who are committed to thinking collaboratively and creatively about protecting our Bay for generations. Stay tuned for much more!

One of the best parts of serving as your member of Congress is having the honor of nominating our talented young people from the Third District to our nation’s military academies. This week, my team and I invited our 31 incredible service academy appointees and their families to Washington to celebrate this tremendous accomplishment!

As the daughter and granddaughter of Army, Navy, and Air Force veterans, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, it’s an absolute privilege to support our next generation of leaders. Especially during these difficult times, I’m grateful to the young people who continue answering the call to serve. If you’re interested in serving our nation, you can learn more about the nomination process or submit your nomination form at the link below.

As we enter hurricane season, I’m thinking of the NOAA scientists and experts who make sure we get daily weather updates on our phones, lifesaving updates on severe storms, and so much more. Last year, between DOGE and the President’s budget, we saw unprecedented attacks on NOAA by this Administration. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan NOAA Data Preservation Act to ensure NOAA’s crucial data for severe weather forecasting is protected so they can continue their lifesaving work this hurricane season and beyond.
