From the Coast Guard Yard in to the Baltimore Clipper to the production of 384 Liberty ships during World War II, Maryland’s rich maritime history is both storied and bound for a comeback. That’s why at the Masters, Mates & Pilots (International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots) Conference – hosted right here in Linthicum – I spoke about the importance of reinvesting in our shipbuilding and maritime industries for our national security and diverse economy. Whether it's supporting pro-labor, pro-maritime legislation like the SHIPS for America Act or working directly with our partners at Coast Guard Yard to create new jobs from historic federal investment, I’m proud to stand up for our critical maritime industries so we can be a nation capable of doing big things again.

61 years ago today, President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965 into law, prohibiting discrimination in voting practices on the basis of race. This act is widely considered the single most important piece of legislation protecting the right to vote and upholding the very values that this great experiment of self-governance was founded on 250 years ago.

As the Supreme Court systematically dismantles this crucial act and as President Trump continues to sow distrust in our elections, it’s now even more important to stand up for our fundamental voting rights. I’m a proud co-sponsor of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to put an end to voter disenfranchisement, but today is also a reminder that we can all do our part to lean in, participate, and protect the rights that generations of Americans fought, bled, and died for.

Call me crazy, but I don’t want a Democratic president exercising political retribution against Republican-leaning states. The presidency is greater than your political party. It’s shameful the Trump Administration cares more about exacting political retribution than lowering your energy costs. These draconian cuts have had real consequences in Third District— from cancelling funding for researchers and businesses leading the way in energy efficiency to weakening the electric grid that all of us rely on.

Department of Energy attorneys admitted in recent court filings that it cancelled grants, including over $80 million for Maryland projects, based on how states voted in the 2024 presidential election.

Annapolis’s National Night Out celebration did not disappoint! After recognizing our Howard County first responders, my mom and I made our way to the Busch Library for one of Annapolis’s many National Night Out Celebrations to recognize the vital partnership between Anne Arundel County Police Department and our community. Whether it's in Congress championing legislation to improve training opportunities for our first responders or on the ground with our neighbors, I’m proud to support our first responders and their work in the line of duty.

For our first responders, serving our neighbors in need is not just a job – it’s a life that comes with sacrifice, late nights, overtime, and putting oneself in harm’s way for the safety of our neighbors. Yesterday, I kicked off my National Night Out celebrations with Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and our neighbors in Columbia to recognize the selfless work of the Howard County Police Department and all of our first responders. Their incredible work and selfless sacrifices make our communities safer and stronger every day.

President Trump trusts our adversaries more than he trusts his own advisors. This clear lack of judgement and strategy is only putting more Americans in harm’s way.
