On October 31st, 2023, the city was welcomed into the UNESCO
Creative Cities Network, earning recognition as a city of literature. On October 31, 2023, Kutaisi officially joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a UNESCO City of Literature. UNESCO’s four-year status combines 3 main initiatives, including the city's plans to launch the literature festival in 2025 as a pivotal initiative, the

city will implement a comprehensive program to support education and projects and aims to foster collaboration between literature and media arts.
