Speaking at the welcoming ceremony, boxer Tryagain Morning Ndevelo, who advanced to the finals and earned a silver medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, expressed appreciation for the support received throughout the games. Fellow boxers Mischa Monique Araes and Philip Pumulo Mutakela Haoseb also delivered commendable performances, each securing a bronze medal for Namibia.

In recognition of their outstanding achievements, the three medalists, together with their respective coaches, were presented with monetary awards amounting to a total of N$195,000.00 by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) through the Namibia Sports Commission.

HON. DINO BALLOTTI WELCOMES TEAM NAMIBIA HOME FROM THE GLASGOW 2026 COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), Hon. Dino Ballotti, today welcomed Team Namibia at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek following the team's participation in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The Deputy Minister was joined by Dr. Hamutumwa, President of the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), Ms. Anri Parker, Chief Executive Officer of the NNOC, Dr. Freddy Mwiya, Chief Administrator from Namibia Sport Commisssion (NSC), Mr. Joseph Amakali, Namibia's Head of Mission at the 2026 Commonwealth games, Ms. Jo-Ann Manuel, Director of Sport (MEIYSAC) and Mr. Immanuel Hamukwaya, President of the Namibia Boxing Federation.

Team Namibia was warmly welcomed by members of the sporting fraternity, family members and friends who gathered at Hosea Kutako International Airport to receive the delegation. The reception served as a tribute to the athletes' dedication, discipline and sportsmanship, while acknowledging their commendable efforts in representing Namibia with pride at one of the Commonwealth's premier multi-sport events.

HONOURABLE STEENKAMP OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES THE 2027 NAMAS

Hon. Dr. Sanet L. Steenkamp officially launched the 2027 Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) today, marking the return of the country's premier music awards after a six-year hiatus and signalling a renewed commitment to celebrating Namibian musical excellence.

“Government proudly assumes the responsibility of stewarding the Namibia Annual Music Awards into a new chapter. We will continue to build on the remarkable foundation laid by those who came before us while committing ourselves to carrying this important legacy forward,” she said.

In line with the priorities of NDP6, Hon. Steenkamp announced that the Government has committed N$10 million to revive the iconic awards platform.

The Minister paid tribute to Sanlam, MTC Namibia, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, sponsors, judges and artists whose dedication helped build the NAMAs into a nationally recognised institution.

Artist submissions for the 2027 NAMAs will open on 10 August 2026 and close on 11 September 2026. The nominees will be announced on 26 January 2027, with the awards ceremony scheduled for 13 March 2027.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY COMMEMORATION

Join us as we celebrate International Youth Day 2026 under the theme: "Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation Through Technology & Partnerships" from 10–12 August 2026 at the Keetmanshoop Show Hall in the //Kharas Region.

The three-day celebration will bring together young people from across Namibia to learn, build and showcase their skills through activities such as an AI & Coding Bootcamp, Robotics, a Youth Hackathon, an Innovation Showcase, the Learning Passport Launch and the International Youth Day Main Event.

MINISTRY HOSTS CÔTE D'IVOIRE EDUCATION DELEGATION

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC) today welcomed an education delegation from the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and sharing best practices in education.

The delegation, led by Mr. KOUAKOU Porne, Regional Director of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education for Abidjan 2, was received by Ms. Edda Bohn, Deputy Executive Director: Formal Education, on behalf of the Ministry.

During the engagement, the delegation shared insights into education reforms in Côte d'Ivoire, including efforts to improve skills development, quality assurance, access to education and alignment of training programmes with labour market needs. They highlighted that their education system serves approximately 7 million learners and 200,000 teachers, while acknowledging challenges in areas such as science, mathematics and vocational training.

The delegation also expressed interest in Namibia’s experience in promoting women in leadership and managing learner pregnancy. Mr. Nghikembua, Director of Education for the Khomas Region, shared that Namibia’s Affirmative Action legislation has created opportunities for women in leadership, with appointments guided by qualifications, competence and merit.

The visit concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration and exchanging knowledge to advance quality, inclusive and equitable education.

The delegation from CubaDeportes met with representatives from the Directorate of Sport, the Namibia Sport Commission, the Namibia National Olympic Committee, and Anti-Doping Namibia today.

The engagements focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing strategic partnerships in sport. Discussions centred on knowledge exchange, capacity building, athlete development, sports administration, technical cooperation, and the promotion of clean and ethical sport.

The meetings provided a valuable platform to identify areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for sustained collaboration between Namibia and Cuba in advancing sport development, enhancing institutional capacity, and fostering excellence across the sporting sector.
