The National Library of Namibia was visited by Mr. Makandwa, a University Librarian from Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS), Zimbabwe for Benchmarking purposes.

Benchmarking is not about competition but about continuous improvement, accountability, and learning. It is essential for African libraries to share best practices.

Today, the National Library of Namibia had the absolute pleasure of hosting a brilliant group of Occupational Health and Safety students from International University of Management (IUM), for a specialized tour.

While many see a library as just a quiet space for books, these students looked at our facility through a completely different lens! Together, we explored how a national institution manages large-scale public safety, ergonomics, and emergency preparedness.

Thank you for visiting us and for your dedication to keeping workplaces safe. We look forward to seeing you back at our library soon!

Day 4 of the 27th SCECSAL Conference; Mrs. Hedwich Helrin Meyer, Chief Librarian at the National Library of Namibia, unpacked the critical role of the Namibia National Bibliography (NNB) in preserving and providing access to the nation’s published heritage.

The presentation highlighted how the NNB is built through legal deposit, systematic collection, cataloguing using international standards, and dissemination across print and digital platforms, supported by collaboration with local and international partners.

The session emphasized clear opportunities for progress:
• Strengthening capacity building
• Enhancing communication and coordination
• Investing in modern systems and technologies
• Increasing funding and strategic partnerships

The message was clear: safeguarding Namibia’s published heritage requires deliberate investment, collaboration, and innovation.

🕯️ Remembering Resilience, Honouring History 🕯️
Join us at the National Library of Namibia for a powerful exhibition on the Siege of Leningrad one of the most harrowing chapters of World War II.

Through stories of survival, loss, and courage, this exhibition reminds us why remembrance matters: to honour the millions of victims and to ensure such atrocities are never repeated.
