Yesterday, we joined our Honourable Governor at the Chinese Embassy in Namibia for the , which brought together Namibian and Chinese friends to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and enduring friendship between our two countries.
The Culture Fair forms part of a series of activities commemorating the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, thereby creating opportunities for cultural exchange, mutual understanding and stronger connections between our peoples.
The event brought together businesses, institutions, organizations and schools from both countries, showcasing a diverse range of products, services and creative work across areas such as arts, culture, education and business.
The Khomas Region continues to enjoy strong and friendly relations with the People’s Republic of China, with the Chinese Embassy in Namibia as an important stakeholder, further strengthened by our growing cooperation and partnerships with Jiangsu and Jiangxi Provinces in China.

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has held regional consultations in Windhoek to assess Namibia’s progress in implementing recommendations from its Country Review Report and National Programme of Action.

Speaking at the |Khomas Regional Council, APRM National Governing Council member Ambassador Wilfred Emvula said the consultations are assessing progress since the 2024 report while identifying remaining challenges and areas needing intervention. He stressed the need to determine whether government programmes are making a meaningful impact on communities.

Youth unemployment was among the key concerns raised, with Khomas recording a rate of 44 per cent.

Salomo Hei, also a member of the APRM National Governing Council, said the progress report should reflect challenges faced by communities, including employment, education and migration.

The review also covers decentralisation, access to information, gender equality, gender-based violence and access to justice, as well as economic issues such as green hydrogen, revenue collection and the mining value chain.

The findings will contribute to a progress report expected to be presented by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to fellow African leaders.

Through the partnership between the Khomas Regional Council and Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, medical specialists from the Khomas Region have successfully completed their one-month Observational Fellowship Programme at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, and were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful participation.
The delegation, which is comprised of specialists in oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology and paediatrics, intensive care, anesthesiology, and radiography, among others, has gained valuable exposure to advanced medical practices, knowledge and professional expertise through engagements with their Chinese counterparts.
The programme is an important investment in professional development, knowledge exchange and strengthening healthcare services in the Khomas Region.
Having been in China since 01 August 2026, the delegation is set to return home on 03 September 2026, bringing with them valuable knowledge, skills and experiences that will contribute to strengthening healthcare services in Khomas Region and Namibia at large.
