The Kingdom of Eswatini today commemorated World Book and Copyright Day 2026 under the local theme: “Promoting SiSwati Stories in the Digital Age.”

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, the Honourable Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Dr Thambo Gina, emphasized the importance of protecting creativity, preserving cultural identity, and empowering local creators in the digital era.

The event highlighted the critical role of books, music, storytelling, film, and digital content in shaping national identity and driving economic growth through the creative economy.

Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening copyright protection and ensuring that creators are fairly recognized and rewarded for their intellectual work, including content shared online.

A key highlight of the programme was the recognition of the first cohort of licensed copyright users, marking an important milestone in promoting copyright compliance and supporting a sustainable creative industry in Eswatini.

The Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, is currently in the Republic of Azerbaijan attending the World Housing Forum and Exhibition.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Hon. Khumalo held fruitful bilateral discussions with Mr. Niyaz Ali-zadeh, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Azerbaijan.

Their dialogue centered on entrepreneurship development and diverse investment opportunities. It also touched on business development as a vital driver for job creation, innovation, and solutions to unemployment as well as learning from Azerbaijan’s successful model of private sector coordination and sustainable growth.

Looking ahead, both leaders explored exciting prospects for future collaboration, including the convening of joint business seminars and a potential cooperation framework to advance our shared economic goals.

The 58th Edition of the Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF) has officially been launched under the theme: “Unlocking Green Economy Opportunities for Sustainable Trade Promotion.”
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, Ambassador Melusi Masuku highlighted the EITF’s continued role as a cornerstone of Eswatini’s economic growth since 1968 driving trade, investment, innovation, and inclusive development.
This year’s edition places strong emphasis on sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusivity, encouraging businesses, MSMEs, innovators, and institutions to showcase green economy initiatives and ESG frameworks that promote responsible and sustainable business practices.

The fair will once again feature:

The Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, today visited the site where Eswatini Metal Foundries will be located , a major step forward in advancing Eswatini’s industrialisation agenda.

Located along at Sidvokodvo , the facility is strategically positioned within a key industrial zone, strengthening logistics, infrastructure access, and production efficiency.

The investment is set to create over 500 jobs across technical and industrial fields as well as boost local supply chains through scrap metal sourcing.

Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, met with the management of ABF Sugar, who are currently in Eswatini on a working visit.

ABF Sugar is the parent company of Illovo Sugar Africa, one of Africa’s largest sugar producers with operations across the region, including Eswatini. Through Illovo, the group operates key local assets such as Ubombo Sugar, making it a central player in the country’s sugar industry.

The Minister expressed government’s sincere appreciation for the group’s continued investment, noting its significant contribution to economic growth, job creation, and the development of the sugar industry. He highlighted the critical role played by Illovo’s operations in strengthening Eswatini’s position in regional and international markets.

Minister Khumalo reaffirmed government’s commitment to maintaining a conducive business environment and pledged continued support to ensure the sustainability and expansion of their operations.
