With a membership of 62 Governments, 58 of which are in the region, and a geographical scope that stretches from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from the Russian Federation in the north to New Zealand in the south, ESCAP is the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions. The government of the People’s Republic of China renewed its support to ESCAP's Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) for another 5 years (2021-2025) on 22 April 2021.

CSAM is the first regional UN entity headquartered in Beijing, from where it serves all Asia-Pacific countries promoting sustainable agricultural mechanization through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and support to policy formulation. The contribution from the Chinese Government will support the Centre’s operations and the fulfilment of its mandate.

#CS77 opened this afternoon with a strong call for strengthening multilateralism, international development coordination, and collaboration with subregional organizations to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic.

23 leaders from across the Asia-Pacific and UN system spoke today during the Ministerial segment. Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, was elected Chair of the 77th Commission Session.
