Work continues on the Bangor Street Project and the new traffic pattern is expected to be implemented this week (8/31–9/4), weather permitting.

The section of Bangor Street between approximately Whipper’s Pizza and North Belfast Avenue will transition to:

-One through lane in each direction
-One shared center turn lane

As part of this transition, crews will begin removing the existing lane-direction signs near the Quimby Street intersection. The traffic signals will remain in place for the time being and will be adjusted as necessary to accommodate the new traffic pattern. The signals cannot be removed until the new pedestrian facilities are fully operational.

Drivers should pay close attention to new pavement markings, signage, and changing traffic patterns while traveling through the area. Thank you for your patience as this project continues!

Work is progressing on the Bangor St. reconstruction project in Augusta, with new base pavement being placed this week (8/24-8/28). As part of this project, the traffic pattern of the roadway between approximately Whipper’s Pizza and North Belfast Avenue, will be updated to one through lane in each direction with a shared center turn lane. This updated traffic pattern will be implemented beginning the week of 8/31-9/4, barring any weather setbacks. Please follow all designated construction signs in the area.

Back to school is officially underway! Happy first day of school to the students, families, teachers, and staff at St. Michael School! Officer Doody and Officer Sterling were there this morning welcoming students and even taking their own first-day-of-school photos!

We know those first-day smiles are too cute not to share. But before you post that adorable back-to-school photo, take a quick look at what you're sharing along with it.

We have lots of school safety tips coming your way from walking and biking to school to bus safety, but online safety is important, too!

DO: Keep it fun! We love seeing those first-day-of-school signs.
DON’T: Include personal information like your child’s classroom number, teacher’s name, bus number, or other identifying details.
DO: Check the background of your photo before posting.
DON’T: Accidentally include your house number, license plate, or other information that could identify where your child lives.
DO: Celebrate! Those first-day photos are worth taking.
DON’T: Share details about your child’s daily schedule, routine, or location.

A quick check before you hit “post” can help keep those back-to-school memories fun and safe. Wishing all of our Augusta students a happy and safe school year!
