MYTH: Artificial Turf Systems Contain Harmful PFAS
TRUTH: Brock and our turf partners proudly manufacture products without intentionally added PFAS, helping ensure greater safety and peace of min for both athletes, surrounding communities, and the environment.

YOUR HOUSE HAS MORE PFAS THAN ARTIFICIAL TURF!
Household items with the highest PFAS levels tend to be those with water, grease, or stain resistance as a key feature.

Several products across each category were tested, and many were found to contain some level of harmful PFAS. These graphics show the percentage of items with measurable PFAS levels and highlight the most harmful types detected in each category. In contrast, modern artificial turf systems are manufactured with NO intentionally added PFAS. If you're concerned about exposure, the everyday items you use and wear may be the best place to start.

Field of the Week Friday | Southmoore High School | Moore, Oklahoma

Great athletic fields are built from the ground up—and Southmoore High School’s football field is a great example of what happens when performance, safety, and collaboration come together.

This project features AstroTurf paired with the Brock SP17XL shock pad system to help create a more consistent and athlete-focused playing surface for students and the Moore Public School community.

While athletes see the turf on game day, what’s underneath plays a major role in long-term performance and impact absorption. Brock shock pads are designed to help improve consistency and support athlete safety season after season.

We’re proud to be part of this project alongside United Turf and Track and AstroTurf to help improve the field of play for Southmoore High School.

Projects like this highlight the importance of collaboration between schools, designers, installers, and manufacturers to create better athletic environments for athletes and communities alike.

Field of the Week Friday: Madison County Schools District - Germantown High School GHS Mavericks

A field built for performance in one of the toughest environments—Mississippi heat.

At Brock, we believe the field is more than a surface—it’s equipment that directly impacts athlete safety and performance. This week’s feature showcases a system designed to deliver both.

Project Overview:
Location: Madison, Mississippi
Size: 94,426 sq ft
Installed: 2025
Turf: AstroTurf
Infill: BrockFILL
Shock Pad: Brock PowerBase YSR
Installer: T3 Global Projects
Designer: Wier Boerner Allin Architecture

Built for Mississippi Conditions: In high-heat environments like Mississippi, surface temperature isn’t just a comfort issue—it’s a player safety factor.

That’s where BrockFILL makes a difference.

BrockFILL is engineered to help reduce surface heat compared to traditional infills, creating a more playable field during hot conditions while maintaining consistent performance.

Combined with the PowerBase YSR shock pad, this system delivers:
* Reliable impact protection
* Consistent footing across the field
* Efficient drainage
* Long-term durability

The Bottom Line
What makes a great field?
It’s not just what you see—it’s how the entire system performs together.

At Germantown High School, every layer was designed with the athlete in mind.

We don’t make turf. We make turf safer.

This week, Brock USA recognizes Brain Injury Awareness Week and the ongoing importance of concussion awareness, athlete safety, and sports surface education.

At Brock, reducing head-to-surface impacts has been part of our mission from the very beginning. We believe the playing surface is safety equipment too — and that safer athletic fields start from the ground up.

This week, we’re proud to highlight the role shock pads play in synthetic turf safety, along with the important work Brock has supported alongside the Concussion & CTE Foundation to advance brain injury awareness, athlete protection, and concussion education.

Why does this matter?
Research shows that nearly 1 in 5 sports-related concussions occurs when an athlete’s head impacts the playing surface. Yet a majority of synthetic turf fields are still installed without shock pad systems designed to help manage impact forces and improve long-term field safety performance.

Shock pads help:
• Reduce head-to-surface impact severity
• Improve synthetic turf safety and consistency
• Support athlete safety across all levels of play
• Enhance long-term sports field performance

Protecting athletes requires better education, smarter field design, continued research, and a commitment to improving sports surfaces through innovation and science.

Brain Injury Awareness Week is an important reminder that concussion prevention and athlete safety require continued innovation, education, and better sports surface standards.

At Brock USA, we’ve long believed that the playing surface is safety equipment too.

When discussing concussion reduction in sports, the synthetic turf system beneath athletes deserves a much bigger role in the conversation. Research has shown that nearly 1 in 5 sports-related concussions results from head-to-surface contact, yet shock pads are still only installed on less than half of new synthetic turf fields.

Shock pad technology helps manage impact forces, improve field consistency, and support the long-term safety performance of synthetic turf systems. Despite growing awareness around sports-related brain injuries, too many athletes still compete on fields built without this critical layer of protection.

We’re grateful for organizations like the Concussion & CTE Foundation that continue advancing concussion awareness, brain injury education, athlete advocacy, and CTE research. Their work helps move athlete safety forward across all levels of sport.

Protecting athletes requires better education, stronger standards, continued research, and safer athletic surfaces.

Not every field needs the same foundation—but every athlete needs the right one.
That’s why Brock created the ShockPad Series.

The Brock ShockPad Series is a performance-driven shock pad system engineered to help artificial turf fields perform more like natural grass.

Ideal for:
• Field replacements with existing stone bases that drain well
• Projects requiring vertical drainage
• Performance-focused systems with budget efficiency in mind

Benefits include:
• Balanced impact performance
• Consistent speed and playability
• Fast vertical drainage
• Long-term durability

Available in three thicknesses: 14mm, 17 mm, and 20mm, each system is tuned to the turf and field design for optimal performance.

With durable interlocking panels and open-pore drainage, the ShockPad Series is engineered to deliver the firm yet forgiving feel athletes need, firm for play, soft for safety.

Because the goal isn’t just to build a field—it’s to build a surface that performs like great natural grass.
