Independent Living Center

Independent Living Center Aging, Disability & Independent Living Resource Center;
Here to assist individuals to live independently in the homes and communities of their choice.

Independent Living is a philosophy and a way of life. It is a movement of people with disabilities who work for self-determination, equal opportunities and self-respect. The Independent Living philosophy says that every person, regardless of disability, has the potential and the right to exercise individual self-determination. We expect the same choices and control in our everyday lives that every

one else takes for granted. We want the same freedom to try, and fail, and learn from our failures. We want to grow up in our families, go to the neighborhood school, use the same bus as our neighbors, work in jobs that are in line with our education and abilities, start families of our own. We need to be in charge of our lives, to think and speak for ourselves. We need to support and learn from each other. We must organize ourselves and work for political changes that lead to the legal protection of our human and civil rights. We are profoundly ordinary people sharing the same need to feel included, recognized and loved.

Thanks to Alaska State Parks for helping TRAILS explore across the bay. Our crew stayed at Halibut Cove Lagoon public use cabins and helped spruce it up. We saw otters, porpoises, loons and learned about wild edibles. What a great way to kick off the summer. Can’t wait to go next year.

‼️Attention Kenai and Soldotna local businesses‼️

ILC’s Summer Work Program is seeking local businesses to partner with during the month of June. The program connects local students with businesses to provide valuable hands-on work experience at no cost to the business.

ILC provides student wages and insurance coverage, businesses benefit from additional support during busy seasons, and students develop valuable workplace skills. It’s a great opportunity to support local youth while strengthening our community workforce.

If you are interested in partnering with our program, please contact Kaitlyn Norris at (907) 262-6326 or [email protected].

See you all tomorrow. Hope for the same kind of sun as today
