🎓 Scholarship Spotlight: Ysela Gomez 💙

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Ysela Gomez as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

Ysela, the daughter of Thelma Gomez of the Joe Ney Unit with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, is continuing her education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she is majoring in Civil Engineering.

As a first-generation college student, Ysela has navigated every step of the college journey with determination and perseverance. Today, she is entering her third year of college, driven by a desire to honor the sacrifices of her family and create opportunities for the future.

In her scholarship essay, she shared:

"Becoming a civil engineer is something that I not only hope to accomplish for myself but for my family as well."

The Torres/Joe Ney complex has kicked off Correctional Officer Week, Monday staff had snow-cones and today along with the Admin Team and our Crisp Members staffed got to enjoy some popcorn and pickles.

Today, our unit had the opportunity to witness one of our own transform a plain wall into a meaningful piece of art for our facility.

Our unit artist used their talent, focus, and dedication to create a mural that reflects the values of teamwork, resilience, and pride in our mission.

We appreciate the hard work and the positive impact it brings to our environment. Excellent job to the artists!!😇

The Ruben M. Torres Unit hosted its first ever Say No To Drugs Fun Day. The inmate population were afforded a variety of games, music, and fellowship as healthy alternatives to substance abuse.
