This Friday afternoon, we are #HonoringMKEHeroes by showcasing Plan Examiner Peter Schwartz! He is always supportive of his Development Center co-workers and is both helpful & informative to customers. Since the pandemic began, his assistance in the Permit Center has increased tenfold and coworkers say he is always willing to help. Outside of our office, Peter is involved in the community - committed to social justice and ensuring the voices of the community are heard!

We celebrate Peter as a #MKEHero and thank Mayor Tom Barrett for providing this opportunity to honor these great members of our team.

Our second Friday highlight #honoringMKEheroes is for Plumbing Inspector Mike Dauer. Nominated by his coworkers - he is a master plumber who joined the City of Milwaukee after years of working at Wisconsin Kitchen Mart.

He is always working to solve problems for customers, learn new skills, and do everything with the highest quality of workmanship. Thank you for everything you do Mike!

We join Mayor Tom Barrett this week in #HonoringMKEHeroes!

Our Friday post #honoringMKEheroes is dedicated to Tech Team employee Wendy S Sparapane! Since we closed our doors to the public, Wendy has not missed one day at the Development Center. Her daily routine of helping the plumbing and DPW Milwaukee customers has not changed. She continues to be one of the main point people when calling the Tech Team for assistance with permits. Our customers needs are often timely and having Wendy there every day working through permits and issues make delays to their work non-existent. Our customers appreciate her and customers often comment on how helpful she has been. She is dedicated, hardworking, and a true #MKEHero.

Thank you Mayor Tom Barrett for #honoringMKEeheroes this year.

Our second highlight today #honoringmkeheroes is for the Commercial Code Enforcement Section! With city offices and businesses closed, this group of inspectors and clerical staff were able to quickly and seamlessly adapt to remote work. They performed required state life safety inspections on public buildings in a safe manner for our inspectors and occupants. They met State and City deadlines for annual inspection reporting with a 3 month pause on interior inspections during various health orders and quarantine.

They also helped constituents navigate the city's new way of doing business both digitally and virtually to assist businesses in obtaining occupancy certificates, licenses, and accessing new programs (active streets, parklets, etc.).

We join Mayor Tom Barrett in giving a HUGE thank you to our Commercial Code Enforcement team!

03/11/2021

This week we join Mayor Tom Barrett in #HonoringMKEHeroes who have gone above and beyond this past year. The first two we celebrate are Inspectors Olgita David and Bob Lannin. This past fall, when conducting an inspection on a residential property, they learned that the resident had no shoes. As a size 19 6E - shoes never fit right and he was not able to purchase this specialty size. They also learned that he had very little food to eat or a support system who could help out. Olgita immediately purchased him a trunk load of food out of her own pocket, while Bob called around to multiple professional and collegiate sports team around the state, thinking they might be the most likely to have this size shoe! They worked with a shoe manufacturer to get a custom shoe made and a donation of six pairs of correctly sized socks. They also connected this resident with the Dept. of Aging to ensure he has continued care through a case worker.

Thank you Olgita and Bob for being our MKE Heroes!
