It’s funny how life leads us where we need to be. Cookie Graham and Hershel Graham are an amazing duo. Cookie has dedicated 21 years of her life and time to advocacy for 79…YES 79….children!! 79 lives in Carteret and Craven Counties impacted by her gentle spirit. We are thankful for her service and that she will always be a Friend of GAL even once she retires.

As a division of the courts, GAL District 4 offices will also be closed tomorrow, 9/7. Happy Labor Day!!

Courthouses and court offices will be closed tomorrow, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

*Magistrate offices remain open 24/7.

June is National Reunification Month. This month we celebrate the power of family reunification and the positive impact on the lives of children in foster care. We applaud the hard work and dedication of parents and caregivers who overcome incredible challenges to regain custody. We also acknowledge community partners who support the family's reunification journey. Join us as a voice for a child during their journey!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads and father figures who show up with love, guidance, and support in so many different ways. Today we celebrate not just biological fathers, but also foster fathers, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and anyone who helps nurture, protect, and uplift children. We see many different fathers through the GAL program, and today we celebrate you all! 💙💙

Juneteenth is a day to celebrate freedom while also remembering the struggles and resilience of Black Americans.

Why we celebrate: On June 19th, 1865, freedom finally arrived for the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in Texas. It was on this day, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that the Union army arrived in Galveston to announce and enforce freedom in the Westernmost confederate state.

At the end of last week, we had the pleasure of swearing in 5 new GAL volunteers between Carteret and Craven counties. We are thankful for their willingness to give of their time to be an advocate for abused and neglected children.
