Troy PD Detectives have arrested a 20-year-old male from Troy in connection to a shooting that occurred on 08/16/26.

On Sunday, August 16th, 2026 Troy Police Patrol Officers responded to a reported shooting outside in the area of Hutton Street and 13th Street. Upon their arrival an adult male victim was located, the victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and later released. Detectives responded to the scene that day along with Evidence Technicians to continue the investigation. Several leads were developed and Detectives identified the suspect, an individual who had engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim then shot the victim and fled. With the necessary probable cause to support an arrest Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and continued their investigation in an attempt to locate the suspect’s current whereabouts. With the assistance of the United States Marshals Service & New York State Police Aviation the suspect was located and arrested this morning (08/26) at a residence on High Street in Richmondville, NY. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident, he was transported to the Troy Police Department for processing and will appear in Rensselaer County Court for arraignment. Our partners at the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office have been present throughout the investigation and will oversee prosecution of the case. The collaborative effort is another demonstration of the effectiveness of our NYS DCJS GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) Initiative where shootings, both fatal & non-fatal, are confronted by a variety of criminal justice partners with additional state resources and guidance from NYS DCJS in order to continue to reduce the instances of gun violence in our community. These efforts are part of the larger, comprehensive GIVE initiative which focuses on preventative measures involving a variety of community stakeholders as well as enforcement to reduce shootings and firearm-related violent crimes.

We are grateful for the partnership of community members who provided video surveillance evidence, the other agencies involved (USMS NY/NJ RFTF & Rensselaer County DA) and the diligent efforts of the responding Officers & Detectives who collectively have safely apprehended an individual charged with committing violent acts within our Troy community. As many have echoed, one gun-involved violent crime is still too many and the collaboration amongst organizations will continue as we address these issues within our neighborhoods. If you have any information about illegal weapons within Troy please contact our Detective tipline at (518) 270-4777 or report online at TroyPD.org. The collective effort between the Mayor, administration and Troy Police Department remains strong, and we are all committed to creating a safer, cleaner Troy.
