Troy PD personnel are investigating an early-morning stabbing that resulted in the death of an adult male, all of the involved suspects are in custody.

Around 3:30am Saturday (06/13) morning Troy Police Patrol Officers responded to a reported fight in the area of 5th Ave and Fulton St in Troy. Upon Patrol Officers’ arrival they located two adult males at the scene, both having sustained injuries. Patrol Officers determined two other involved suspects fled prior to police arrival. Both of those involved suspects were located in the surrounding area, one by TPD Patrol Officers and another by our partners with the New York State Police – Troop G. Both were detained without further incident. The two individuals located at the scene with injuries were treated by Troy Fire Department personnel at the scene and both were transported to local area hospitals. One of those individuals has died from their injuries. The second individual is being treated and is expected to be discharged.

Troy PD Detectives and Evidence Technicians responded to the scene and continued our investigation. Preliminarily we believe the deceased victim and the three other individuals (two detained nearby, one detained at the scene and being treated at the hospital) became involved in a verbal argument in the area of 5th Ave and Fulton St. The argument escalated into a physical fight and the deceased victim possessed a knife. During the fight the suspect now detained at the hospital was injured by the knife, and the deceased victim received injuries from being kicked, punched and stabbed.

All three suspects detained are in Troy PD custody and will be criminally charged in relation to the incident. There is no indication at this time any other individuals were involved. Our investigation will continue as we gather & review any additional evidence. We appreciate the assistance we have already received from community members, some of whom witnessed portions of the incident. We are also grateful for the partnership and immediate response of the New York State Police – Troop G as well as the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office, who will oversee prosecution of the case.

The victim is a 37 year old male, from Troy. The three suspects are all adult males (35, 20, 19 years old).

If you have any information about the incident and have not yet been interviewed by a Detective, please contact TPD at (518) 270-4411. The collective effort between the Mayor, administration and Troy Police Department remains strong, and we are all committed to creating a safer, cleaner Troy.

Monday evening Troy Police Patrol Officers arrested an individual who has been charged with threatening a victim with a handgun, the suspect was ultimately found to possess three illegal handguns.

Monday evening (06/08) around 4:30pm Troy Police Patrol Officers responded to 739 River Street where a victim reported having been involved in an argument with another person, and that the other person displayed a handgun during the argument. Patrols responded and identified the suspect upon their arrival, he was detained without further incident. The victim and suspect are known to each other as they live in the same general area. It was determined the suspect lived at the address, a court-ordered search warrant was conducted at the suspect’s apartment and TPD Evidence Technicians recovered three loaded, illegal handguns as well as high capacity magazines. The suspect was brought to our Central Station for processing and arraigned in Troy City Court. The suspect was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail. Thankfully, no individuals were injured during the incident. The case will be prosecuted by our partners at the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.

Troy Police Patrol Officers were again called to a dangerous, dynamic incident involving an illegal firearm and were able to stabilize the incident. The response provides an opportunity for the criminal justice system to hold a defendant responsible for engaging in behaviors that are a danger to our greater community, possessing illegal fi****ms and engaging in threatening behaviors involving those fi****ms. We believe the actions of the victim by reporting the incident and the responding patrol officers both directly impacted the safety of our community by preventing the suspect’s actions from further escalating. Our department members remain committed to removing illegally-possessed fi****ms from our streets, if you have any information that would aid those efforts please consider contacting our tipline at (518) 270-4777 or report online at TroyPD.org.
