Troy Police Detectives have arrested a 20 year old Troy man and have charged him in connection with animal neglect.

On September 9th, 2026 the City of Troy Animal Control was made aware of a 8-month-old Pitbull-mix puppy named “Sage” who was found to be neglected, significantly underweight and exhibiting symptoms requiring medical treatment. The dog was brought to Capital District Veterinary Hospital where she received compassionate treatment by Veterinary professionals. Troy Police Detectives continued the investigation alongside Troy Animal Control and have pursued the criminal case charging the dog’s owner. The dog’s owner turned himself in to Troy Police on 10/20/2026. Sage currently remains with the City of Troy Animal Control receiving care, improving each day, while the criminal case progresses. The dog is not currently available for any adoption. The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office will oversee prosecution of the case.

TPD makes arrest in graffiti case

On August 15, 2026, Troy Police patrol units were notified that the Frear Building had been vandalized with graffiti sometime during the overnight hours. The investigation was assigned to the Detective Bureau, whose investigative efforts quickly led to the identification of a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued, and on October 16, 2026, the individual turned himself in to police. The subject was arraigned in Troy City Court later that day.

The downtown is a vital part of our community, serving as a destination for residents and visitors. Acts of vandalism not only damage individual properties but also detract from the appearance, character, and overall experience of our downtown. Protecting these buildings and maintaining a welcoming environment are essential to preserving the pride we share in our community and ensuring downtown Troy remains a place people want to visit, work, and spend time.

🚨 COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE REQUESTED – LARCENY INVESTIGATION 🚨

The Troy Police Department has arrested a juvenile in connection with several recent larcenies from motor vehicles in the area of the Beman Park/RPI neighborhoods.

We continue to investigate a recent uptick in thefts from motor vehicles in these neighborhoods as well as the Eastside and southern Lansingburgh. If you have any information about those involved, please contact Detectives. Several incidents have been reported where valuables left inside parked vehicles were stolen. We urge residents to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to protect their property.
Tips to Prevent Theft from Motor Vehicles:

Always lock your vehicle doors and ensure windows are fully closed.

Do not leave valuables such as wallets, electronics, bags, or keys in your vehicle, especially in plain sight.

Park in well-lit, busy areas whenever possible.

Use alarm systems or steering wheel locks for added security.

Check your vehicle regularly, particularly if you hear suspicious activity nearby.

If you observe suspicious activity or believe a theft is in progress, please dial 911 immediately. Your vigilance helps keep our community safe.

Troy Police make armed robbery arrest

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at approximately 6:27 p.m., Troy Police patrol officers responded to Stewart’s, located at 9 112th Street, for a reported robbery involving a knife. A subject had entered the store armed with a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee complied with the demands, and the subject fled the store as responding officers were arriving.

Witnesses at the scene immediately directed officers toward the fleeing subject, allowing officers to pursue him on foot. During the pursuit, officers deployed a taser; however, the subject continued to actively resist arrest. While officers attempted to take him into custody, the subject swung the knife at them. Officers were ultimately able to disarm the subject and safely take him into custody.

The subject was transported by the Troy Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment of minor lacerations. Following his release from the hospital, the subject was held at the Troy Police Department and arraigned the following day. One officer also received treatment for minor injuries.
The Troy Police Department would like to thank the witnesses who promptly assisted responding officers by providing critical information during this incident. Their willingness to come forward and assist law enforcement played an important role in the swift apprehension of the suspect.

We also commend the officers involved for their professionalism, quick response, and decisive actions in what was a dangerous and rapidly evolving situation. Confronting an armed individual who actively resisted arrest and attempted to use a knife against officers presented a significant risk to everyone involved. We are grateful that the officers were able to disarm the subject and bring the incident to a conclusion without any additional injuries to the officers or members of the public.

Troy Police Detectives have arrested a 25 year old man from Guatemala in connection to a r**e investigation.

On October 13th, 2026 Troy Police Detectives were contacted by Manchester (Vermont) Police Detectives who reported information indicating a 25 year-old male had engaged in sexual contact with a 16 year-old female in Troy. Detectives from each agency continued the investigation, learning more about the interactions between the victim/suspect while at the same time providing support to the victim and her family. It was determined the victim and suspect were familiar with each other. The victim is unable to consent due to her age.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect and on 10/19/26 while conducting surveillance the suspect was observed on 5th Avenue near 116th Street in Troy. Detectives approached the suspect, identified themselves as Police Officers and attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect began fighting officers, ultimately biting one Detective and a second Detective sustained injury to the wrist. The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the Troy PD Central Station where he was interviewed and processed. The suspect will be arraigned in Troy City Court on 10/20/26.

Troy Police Detectives have arrested the driver involved in last night’s traffic crash involving a Troy Fire Ambulance.

This morning Troy Police Detectives continued the investigation into last night’s crash where two Troy firefighters were injured and the driver of the other involved vehicle fled the scene. Around 11:30am this morning Detectives arrested Ari B. Ginsburg (Age: 27, Brunswick) and he has been charged in connection to the crash. The suspect will be arraigned in Troy City Court later this afternoon.

Mayor Carmella R. Mantello said “I am thankful that there were no serious injuries to our Troy Fire Department and EMS personnel following yesterday evening’s hit-and-run crash involving a city ambulance. Our first responders put themselves on the line every day to protect and serve our community, and they deserve the same respect and responsibility from others on our roads. I also want to give thanks to our Troy Police Department for their quick work to locate and apprehend this suspect.”

We appreciate the partnership of the New York State Police – Troop G/Brunswick who have assisted throughout this investigation. We are grateful no one was seriously injured during the crash and are hopeful for a swift recovery for both firefighters.

Today, the Troy Police Department remembers and honors Officer Michael McMahon, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On October 10th 1910, Officer McMahon was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance, as he approached the front door of the residence. He faithfully served the Troy Police Department for seven years, dedicating himself to protecting the community.

The individual responsible for his murder was convicted and later executed at Clinton Prison in 1911.

Officer McMahon left behind his loving wife and six children, a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices made not only by those who wear the badge, but also by the families who stand beside them.

Today, and every day, we honor Officer McMahon’s service, courage, and sacrifice. His name and legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Officer McMahon. We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
