On this 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, I wrote an op-ed in Democracy Docket about why the fight for voting rights is far from over, and how we must stand together to pass new legislation to protect against modern-day voter suppression tactics.

We face one of the greatest challenges to Black political participation since the VRA first came into existence.

Without the proper tools in place to combat it, extreme weather like extreme heat, drought and poor air quality endangers the health, safety and well-being of communities and drives up health care costs. The climate crisis will make these events more frequent over time.

I held a roundtable with health care providers to discuss the effects and challenges of extreme weather on public health and the cost of care, particularly for children.
