Pentagon: Afghanistan evacuations past Aug. 31 would require additional Taliban talks

The Biden Administration must extend the self-imposed withdrawal deadline past the end of the month.

To leave behind countless Americans and Afghan-national allies would be to condemn them to arrest, imprisonment, or death at the hands of the Taliban.

Biden has said he might maintain the U.S. military presence in Kabul beyond the end of the month.

Taliban Crack Down on Protests, Hamper Kabul Evacuations

An estimated 10,000-15,000 American citizens remain stranded in Afghanistan with passage to the airport blocked by the Taliban. It is the Biden Administration’s duty to find and bring home EVERY American. No one can be left behind. If you know of any U.S. citizens in Afghanistan in need of assistance, please contact my office.

Hot Springs: (501) 609-9796

The Islamist group continued to block people from reaching Kabul’s international airport to flee the country, and used gunfire to disperse street demonstrations against Taliban rule.

08/16/2021

President Biden’s “planned and strategic” withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan has resulted in chaos.

The Taliban sits in the Presidential Palace and is reportedly in possession of U.S. arms meant to fortify the Afghan army. Americans on the ground are stranded, hiding and praying for their lives. Families cling to the few planes leaving the country, desperate for safety. America has lost all credibility.

President Biden acted against the advice of numerous military and policy advisors to rush the withdrawal from Afghanistan, all but handing the country to the Taliban. This is a disgrace to the service members who lost their lives, were wounded, or continue to deal with the trauma of combat in their 20 year mission to protect their country from extremists.

President Biden has allowed the fragile nation to fall into the hands of those same extremists, risking the lives of Americans now and in the future. His short-sighted, politically expedient decision making has exposed our nation, our allies, and the Afghan people to serious terrorist threats.

Westerman lauds center's crucial work

It was an honor to speak to the National Center for Toxicological Research's 50th anniversary celebration yesterday in Jefferson County!

Many may not be aware of how influential NCTR is in their daily lives. It is because of the hard work of scientists and researchers in facilities such as this that the U.S. has the safest food, medicine, and cosmetics in the world.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, R-Ark., gave remarks Wednesday at the 50th anniversary celebration of the National Center for Toxicological Research in Jefferson.

It was an honor to host Congressman Bruce Westerman and his amazing team today at Chapel Pharmacy. Our main goal is to improve healthcare in the community we serve. What incredible representation we have in the 4th congressional district! We are so very thankful.

Bill seeks broader aid to vets hurt by herbicide

I am glad to work with Senator John Boozman to ensure that veterans exposed to Agent Orange while stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War receive the benefits they have earned.

I just recently met with Mr. Bill Rhodes to discuss my bill to guarantee the United States keeps its promises to our servicemen and women and express my support for his important work to advocate for veterans across the nation.

WASHINGTON -- Vietnam War-era service members who were exposed to toxic herbicides are suffering the consequences, regardless of where in southeast Asia they were stationed, an Arkansas veteran says.

Democrat Rep. Cori Bush: I'm Going Defund The Police But Have Security For Myself

Crime continues to rise in cities across the nation and yet some Democrats earnestly continue their push to defund the police, all while spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on their own security.

I proudly support our nation’s law enforcement. Police officers across the nation selflessly serve their communities, putting themselves in danger daily to keep us safe.

The way to combat crime is clear. We must strengthen our local police forces with robust training and resources, rather than dehumanizing and degrading the men and women who work so hard to protect their communities every day.

I recently signed a letter by Rep Michael McCaul along with 100 of my Republican colleagues to President Biden asking for his continued support for Israel in its fight to defend itself against Hamas and take action to cut off Iranian financial support to Palestinian terrorist groups.

As the only true democracy in the Middle East, Israel is vital to the stability of the region and our national security.

I recently had the opportunity to lead a trip to McCallen, Texas, with several other Congress members to see for ourselves the results of the immigration crisis at our southern border.

What we witnessed was shocking.

In my position as Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee, in which we oversee nearly all federal lands, I initially went to see the environmental impact of the thousands of people flooding the area. While we did see significant environmental degradation and pollution, the human cost of the emergency was much worse.

The make-shift facility we visited encounters roughly 4,000 migrants per day, and has seen migrants from 151 countries. Border Patrol agents were completely overwhelmed, spending every second of their time processing those who surrender themselves to the agents.

Completely outnumbered, the agents do not have the capacity to stop the cartels that have created a multibillion-dollar human trafficking operation.

Border Patrol told me stories of 12 and 13-year-old girls who arrived crying inconsolably because they had just been r***d. They told me stories of a 7-year-old child who reported that while traveling by train, he witnessed smugglers become irritated with some of the children and simply throw them off the moving train.

When traveling by boat, smugglers avoid arrest by throwing children, infants, or the elderly into the water so that agents are launched into a rescue mission and the smugglers can escape. These cartels are evil, and they must be stopped.

Customs and Border Patrol desperately need support. They are understaffed and drastically outnumbered. Texas is creating a barrier to help direct the migrants through a limited number of access points so they can more easily control the stream of migrants and catch human and drug traffickers.

I believe such a measure should be implemented across our entire border. We also need a more effective legal immigration system based on merit and the needs of the American economy so that we can stop the flow of illegal migrants.

So many of these immigrants are looking for a better life away from the violence of the cartels and the abject poverty of their homelands, and I am grateful that we have a nation that is so attractive to others, but we cannot allow lawlessness to overwhelm our borders where drug smuggling and human trafficking go unchecked.

OPINION | BRUCE WESTERMAN: Stop the spree

"[President Biden's] massive tax hike will be a major blow to Arkansas' post-pandemic recovery. A tax on business is really just a tax on individuals."

It doesn't have to be this way!

Read more about how wasteful government spending will affect Arkansas through tax increases and inflation in my recent oped in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. ⬇

Democrats may think of themselves as modern-day Robin Hoods--taking from the rich to give to the poor--but as they have their way, Arkansas businesses and families are seeing the equivalency of a tax hike in a very sneaky way: through inflation.

Westerman weighs in on infrastructure

Americans are paying more for just about everything including gas, groceries, and even household appliances. 83% of Americans have noticed the prices of household goods rising.

Unrestrained government spending will only further the inflation that is hurting families. I will be closely considering the upcoming infrastructure package coming from the Senate to ensure that it will not cause inflation to continue to rise.

Read more on my perspective on the upcoming infrastructure agreement below. 👇

HOT SPRINGS -- Infrastructure means different things to different people. Roadways, bridges, airports, harbors and other facilities that carry commerce and people come to mind when Garland County's congressional representative contemplates infrastructure.

The Hyde Amendment, a law prohibiting tax dollars to be used to fund abortions, has been included in every appropriations package since 1976 and is a long-standing, bipartisan, common ground provision between Republicans and Democrats to protect the consciences of pro-life Americans.

Only now have Democrats reversed course, making taxpayer-funded abortion in all cases a reality. Watch my speech on the House floor last night about why the Hyde Amendment must be preserved.

07/26/2021

Last night, Ranking Member Congressman Bruce Westerman, Congressman Cliff Bentz, Congressman John Moolenaar, and Rep. Troy Balderson toured portions of the southern border, seeing firsthand the disastrous impact of President Biden's border crisis.

07/26/2021

For 45 years, Democrats and Republicans have come together to protect the consciences of Americans who believe that unborn children are human beings worthy of life.

The Hyde Amendment, which was first introduced by Republican Congressman Henry Hyde in 1976, prevents federal tax dollars from being used to fund abortions within the Medicaid program. Estimates today find this law has saved nearly 2.5 million children from the horrors of abortion.

Recently, Democrats stripped the Hyde Amendment from the annual Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill, paving the way for taxpayers to be forced to fund the act of abortion. It’s disturbing that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has made ending the Hyde Amendment a top priority for her party. This must not be allowed to happen.

The good news is that some Democrats in the Senate have crossed party lines, calling the Hyde Amendment a long-standing compromise, and I am grateful for their support.

I call on my friends across the aisle to find the courage to respect the American taxpayer and stop forcing us to pay for something approximately 50% of Americans are morally against. I am committed to saving the Hyde Amendment however I can. I strongly believe in the humanity of the unborn and the dignity of all human life and I know many Arkansans agree with me. Americans should never be forced to pay for abortions.

This is no longer about politics, party, power, or personalities. This is the time to preserve these United States. You are in a position to do this. Now is the time to act. Resolve to have courage, you are now commended.
I note Articles of Impeachment have been submitted today, Monday, January 11, 2021. While I am sorry the exhortations by the President supported and encouraged the violent assault on the capitol by his followers, I support and encourage the impeachment. I realize it may seem moot to you at this time, with just over a week until President-elect Biden is sworn in, but it is important to see there are repercussions for inappropriate behavior. Please do not view this as without merit.
As a concerned citizen of the United States of America I demand that immediate impeachment proceedings begin against Joe Biden and Kamal Harris.

Let's work on bringing this country back to respecting the law and not feeding anarchy. Get the MORE Act reintroduced and passed ASAP. End the War on Drugs. Drugs are not the cause of drug abuse or addiction. The War on Drugs is purely racist and abuse of power by the DOJ. Innocent people are going to prison for doing their job, against our principles of democracy. The doctor-patient relationship has been destroyed. The War on Drugs has caused the border situation. Money is being poured down a bottomless pit because the attacks on citizens doesn’t address the REAL cause of drug abuse (which you can find on doctorsofcourage.org). Legalizing all drugs is what we need, but the MORE Act is a start. Make this a priority.
Mr Westerman My name is Russ Rogers and live in Danville. I have a request but I feel like I must preface it with the following: I am a disabled veteran of the US Army who served his country proudly. I have worked with the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration where I held a Q level security clearance and was successfully enrolled in their Human Reliability Program. I went to college at the University of Central Arkansas where I earned my bachelor's degree in Geography with a Geospatial Concentration and a minor in History. And lastly I am a born and proud Arkansan. The reason I tell you those things first is I want you to understand that I love my state, I love my country, I have spent a large portion of my life in service to my state and country, I am educated and have been found reliable and trustworthy by the most strict standards our country has. Now to my request, I am asking that you would bring legislation to the Capitol requesting that the great state of Arkansas secede from the United States of America. I do not believe that the federal government has our fellow Arkansans best interests in mind. Our founders set this country up for the states to govern themselves with very limited federal oversight. They overstepped their bounds decades ago. After the events that transpired yesterday I am sad to say that I regret spending a large portion of my life in service to the federal government and its citizens. I would highly encourage that you look into some of the writings of retired Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, a Republican member of the Texas state legislature. He has recently advocated that the state of Texas secede from the United States for similar reasons. Please do not take this as the ramblings of an enraged right wing nut because I am not mad. I am ashamed and embarrassed that our great state is continually being held hostage by those who have no interest in Arkansans needs. Respectfully, Russell Rogers
