This week, Congressman Westerman had the opportunity to discuss the work he’s doing in Washington around energy with the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corp. directors conference. The Congressman understands how important it is that Arkansans receive the reliable and affordable energy they need, and he is grateful for the Arkansas Electric Coop as they continue their work on the state level to achieve the same goal.

Congratulations to University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana for being named one of America’s best trade schools by USA Today! UAHT Chancellor Dr. Ricky Tompkins and his faculty and staff have done an excellent job in setting the standard for advancing workforce education not only in Arkansas, but across the nation.

UAHT has been named one of the 250 best trade schools in the United States in USA TODAY’s 2026 ranking of America’s Best Trade Schools. UAHT was one of only six schools in Arkansas selected for the national list.

As health care remains a major priority for Congressman Westerman, he was grateful for the opportunity to visit with and tour the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs this week. During their visit, the Congressman enjoyed a productive conversation about Arkansas’ health care system, how we can improve health care access, and lower the cost of insurance to ensure Arkansans are able to access the quality health care they need at a more affordable price. It is clear that Scott Bailey and his team show great dedication to the community of Hot Springs.

The Congressman’s Fair Care Act that he introduced this spring includes a number of bipartisan provisions that are a true reflection of his commitment to providing affordable, accessible health care for all Americans.

As a predominantly rural state, Arkansans depend heavily on credit unions for loans and credit so that families, small business owners, and farmers can get the financial support they need. Lower interest rates and fewer maintenance fees also enable credit unions across Arkansas to make banking more accessible for lower-income individuals. This week, Congressman Westerman enjoyed sitting down to meet with the Arkansas Credit Union to discuss their impact on local communities across the Fourth District along with data security and how to best protect Arkansans from fraud.

House Republicans understand that peace through strength begins right here in the homeland – in our nation’s factories, arsenals, and depots. By voting to pass the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, Congressman Westerman joins his colleagues in investing in our national defense to expand munitions capacity, restore depleted stockpiles, and grow our defense workforce.

The House-passed FY27 NDAA:
✅Revitalizes the defense industrial base
✅Improves servicemember quality of life
✅Gives a well-earned 5% to 7% pay raise for service members
✅Restores lethal capability
✅Strengthens American deterrence
✅Eliminates waste, fraud, and abuse

Whether it’s helping with emotional regulation, promoting academic success, or implementing structural support for students, special educators play an essential role in ensuring our education system is equipped to help students with special needs or learning disabilities navigate their everyday school experience.

From his time serving on the local school board, Congressman Westerman understands the importance of the role these educators play. Having the Arkansas Association of Special Education Administrators in Washington this week provided an excellent opportunity to discuss important topics like mental health in schools, special education funding, and teacher staffing needs with special education administrators from across the Natural State.

Ranking 10th in the nation for soybean production, Arkansas’ largest agriculture export is responsible for producing over 150 million bushels every year, coming to a total of more than $1.5 billion. As such a valuable contributor to our state’s economic success, it’s important that Congress works to improve the sustainability and profitability of such a vital product in Arkansas’ agriculture industry. Congressman Westerman was glad to welcome the Arkansas Soybean Association to Washington this week where they discussed important issues to soybean producers not only in Arkansas, but across the nation.

The Gulf South region is the energy and mineral backbone of the United States. Representing just under 14% of the nation’s population, the Gulf South contributes a staggering $3.7 trillion to the U.S. GDP. As Chairman of the new Gulf South Business Caucus, Congressman Westerman had the opportunity to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Gulf South Business Roundtable Policy Conference. Through this newly formed caucus, the Congressman looks forward to leading the charge to focus on federal priorities that support our region’s workers, communities, and employers, while continuing to lead the nation in economic competitiveness, energy production, and industrial growth.
