Now that’s a coffee break with a difference! ☕

A huge thank you to the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) for incorporating Hobart City Mission into your 2026 Annual Conference, The Power In Local.

LGAT went above and beyond to organise a coffee cart across the conference, with 100% of proceeds donated to Hobart City Mission, raising an incredible $1,810 🙌

We absolutely love seeing the creative ways businesses and organisations can give back to their community, and this was such a fantastic example of turning something as simple as a conference coffee into meaningful community impact.

It was also a great opportunity for our Hobart City Mission team to be there, connect with people from across Tasmania’s local government sector and share more about the important work we do in our community.

Thank you to LGAT and all the Tasmanian councils, elected representatives and local government teams who grabbed a coffee, made a donation and took the time to connect with us.

Behind every Food Van is a team of dedicated volunteers making it happen 🚐💛

A big thank you to our Food Van and Emergency Relief volunteers who support people in Huonville and Sorell each week. This service plays an important role in helping people access Emergency Relief closer to home, and it wouldn't be possible without their generosity and care.

Today, volunteers were busy loading up for Huonville, preparing to deliver meals, non-perishable food and other Hobart City Mission service links.

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time to support people in our community. We appreciate all that you do 🙌

🏡 More Homes, More Opportunities!

Our Disability Services team had a wonderful time at the Hobart Disability Expo 2026 this week, connecting with community members from across Tasmania. It was great to catch up with the Disability Commissioner and talk about some of the great work Hobart City Mission is doing.

From sharing information about our supports and services to plenty of laughs at our popular Spin the Wheel, the day was all about building connections and helping people explore what's possible.

🏡 We're also excited to see our new Supported Independent Living (SIL) development in Rokeby continuing to take shape, with completion on track for later this year. These purpose-built homes will provide more opportunities for people with disability to live independently while staying connected to their community.

Whether you’re looking for emergency relief, housing support, a safe place to stay or help to live more independently, you can now find information and connect with the services you need more easily.

Can you believe it’s almost been a whole year since we opened the doors to our Howrah Op Shop? 🥳

To celebrate our first birthday, we’re throwing a community celebration on Saturday 22 August and you’re invited!

Since joining TasCOSS in June, CEO Paula Wriedt has seen firsthand the extraordinary work of Tasmania’s community services industry, while also gaining a greater understanding of the growing financial pressures organisations are under.

If the status quo remains, we will inevitably see fewer programs, longer waiting lists and less support for the Tasmanians who need it most.

This Homelessness Week, we're asking an important question: what if we stopped managing homelessness and started ending it?

We know homelessness is complex, but we also know there are evidence-based approaches that work. One of the strongest is Housing First – a model that provides people with a safe, permanent home first, then wraps the right support around them to help them stay housed and rebuild their lives.

In this Homelessness Week opinion piece, Ewan Higgs, our Housing Services Program Manager, explores why Housing First has been successful around the world, why Tasmania is ready for this approach, and what it will take for government, housing providers and community services to work together to make it a reality.

It's time to move beyond short-term solutions and invest in approaches that create lasting change.
