Mr. Akio Yamaguchi, the Honorary Consul of Bhutan in the Tohoku Region of Northern Japan, called on the Prime Minister today.

The Prime Minister congratulated and thanked Mr. Yamaguchi on his appointment as the Honorary Consul. During their meeting, both sides discussed various matters of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister attended the Passing Out Parade of the first cohort of Gyalsung trainees of 2026 at Pemathang Gyalsung Academy in Samdrup Jongkhar, marking a significant milestone in Bhutan’s nation-building journey.

The ceremony celebrated the successful completion of training by the first cohort of 434 Gyalsups, who demonstrated discipline, unity, resilience, and a deep spirit of service to the Tsa-Wa-Sum. Their dedication reflects His Majesty The King’s vision of empowering Bhutanese youth through the Gyalsung programme.

During his address to the Gyalsups the previous day, the Prime Minister congratulated the graduates and commended them for their commitment and perseverance. He encouraged them to carry forward the knowledge, skills, and discipline gained through the training to become successful and responsible citizens.

The Passing Out Parade stands as a proud moment for the nation and a testament to the spirit, potential, and promise of Bhutan’s young generation.

The Prime Minister met with H.E. Shri Lakshman Acharya, Governor of Assam, and H.E. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, at the Lok Bhavan in Guwahati yesterday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed areas of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the close and enduring ties between Bhutan and Assam through enhanced friendship, cooperation, and people-to-people relations.

In the evening, the Government of Assam also hosted a Cultural Showcase and a State Banquet in honour of the Prime Minister.

The EU Ambassador to Bhutan, H.E. Mr. Hervé Delphin, called on the Prime Minister yesterday for his farewell visit.

Ambassador Delphin shared his deep gratitude to the Royal Government for the seamless cooperation during his time in office and reaffirmed that the European Union and its Member States will remain steadfast partners in Bhutan’s ongoing development journey.

In return, the Prime Minister expressed heartfelt appreciation for the nearly 60 years of bilateral relations between Bhutan and the EU. He highlighted how this enduring partnership has been instrumental in supporting the nation's socio-economic growth, guiding Bhutan all the way from a Least Developed Country to its proud graduation from the category.

Both sides discussed strategic ways to take these bilateral ties forward, exploring new and innovative areas for future collaboration.
