Recently the 82nd Airborne Division's “Task Force 82” assumed responsibility during a transfer of authority ceremony with the 10th Mountain Division's “Task Force Mountain” on Mihail Kogălniceanu Airbase, Romania.

The event, hosted by the U.S. Army’s V Corps, ensures the U.S. military presence in Southeastern Europe by supporting NATO and through multinational training and operations that enhance the between forces.

Today we remember the life and times of U.S. Army Gen. (R) Gordon R. Sullivan, previous Chief of Staff (32nd), United States Army (June '91 - June '95).

General Sullivan left quite the footprint in Germany, with tours of duty as an S-4 (Logistics) w/ 3rd BN, 32nd Armor, 3rd Armored Div., U.S. Army Europe, Germany, July '65 - Jan. '66; Commander, Co. A, 3rd BN, 32nd Armor, 3rd Armored Div. U.S. Army Europe, Germany, Jan. '66 - Oct. '66; Commander, 4th BN, 73rd Armor, 1st Infantry Div. (Forward) U.S. Army Europe, Germany, Jan. '75 - Aug. '76; Chief of Staff, 1st ID (Forward) U.S. Army Europe, Germany, Aug. '76 - June '77; Assistant COS, G-3 (Operations) VII Corps, U.S. Army Europe, Germany, Jan. '80 - May '81; Commander, 1st BDE, 3rd Armored Div., U.S. Army Europe, Germany, May '81 - June '83; and COS 3rd Armored Div., U.S. Army Europe, Germany, June '83 - Oct. '83.

General Sullivan retired in '95, but continued as a in many capacities to include CEO and President of the Association of the United States Army - AUSA National.

General Sullivan passed January 2nd at the age of 86.

Born on Sept. 25, 1937, the Quincy, Massachusetts, native served two tours in Vietnam — one as a combat advisor in the war’s early stages in 1962 — and commanded both the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade and the 1st Infantry Division during the 1980s.

Sullivan, who began his Army career as an armor lieutenant in 1959, is the only person in modern Army history to have served simultaneously as the service’s chief of staff and acting Army secretary.

The Army’s top tank crew competition, the Sullivan Cup - is named in his honor.

May he rest in peace, and condolences to his family and all who knew him.

Friends, in case you missed it, we closed 2023 with a milestone...

U.S. Army Sgt. Maciel Hay, a cavalry scout with 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, is the very first Active Duty female to graduate Sniper School!

The 173rd Airborne Brigade is the U.S. Army's contingency response force in Europe, providing rapidly deployable forces to the United States European, African and Central Command areas of responsibility. Forward deployed across Italy and Germany, the brigade routinely trains alongside NATO allies and partners to build partnerships and strengthen the alliance.

In case you missed it, leaders, including U.S. European Command (EUCOM) Commanding General, and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Gen. Christopher Cavoli, welcomed the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently.

Ukraine’s leader met with U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, United States Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, Генеральний штаб ЗСУ / General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other personnel.
