As we reflect on May 8th, commemorating all those who perished in World War II, we want to remind that The Soviet Union had worked very hard to convince the rest of the world that it was a key factor in defeating N***s, sometimes going as far as positioning itself as the sole winner of WWII.
🔻Russia, as a self-proclaimed heiress to the Soviet Union, maintained this narrative. In fact, Russia pushed the narrative far enough to eventually hide behind it when committing criminal acts of aggression against other nations. No need for a convincing reason to start a war – just call somebody a neo-Nazi.
For the nations left behind the Iron Curtain the end of WWII never was a cheerful celebration.
🔻Instead, previously independent nations were forcefully stripped of their sovereignty: annexed, occupied, turned to satellite states.
Many crimes were not brought into the daylight. The Russo centric Soviet Union kept its façade civil enough for the world to ignore the repressive nature of the regime.
🔻Later, Russia emerged positioning itself as a victim of Communism. Thus, the dissolution of the Soviet Union never got the same attention as the process of decolonization after WWII. But to counter Russian aggression in Ukraine driven by imperialistic beliefs, this piece of history must be told loud and clear.
🔻The Soviet Union was an occupier. The Soviet Union occupied, annexed, killed, mass deported and abused nations stuck behind the Iron Curtain.
Russia continues its dirty deeds in Ukraine.
