The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform and the University of Namibia signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Windhoek today, establishing a framework for cooperation in work-integrated learning, research, knowledge sharing and the utilisation of facilities.
“Research must inform policy, and policy must translate into implementation,” Deputy Minister Hon. Ruthy Masake said.
UNAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kenneth Matengu, meanwhile, described the university’s role in national development as a bridge between knowledge and practical solutions.
“The university is the bridge connecting knowledge, land, and people,” he said.
The agreement will provide opportunities for UNAM students and ministry staff to undertake research projects and related activities, strengthening the link between academic knowledge and practical solutions for Namibia’s agricultural, fisheries, water and land reform sectors.

Yesterday, 11 September 2026, the Honourable Minister, Inge I. Zaamwani along and the Ministry’s Acting Executive Director, Mr. Petrus Canisius Nangolo, accompanied by Senior Ministerial Staff, Handed over the Oshana Integrated Regional Land Use Plan (IRLUP) to the Honourable Governor of Oshana region, Hofni Ipinge and the residents of Oshana.

Namibia and China strengthen cooperation on water security

A Chinese expert group has arrived in Namibia to conduct a two-week feasibility study on borehole drilling and groundwater development across all 14 regions.

The team, received by Executive Director for Water and Fisheries, Mr. Teofilus Nghitila, will engage Regional Councils and inspect areas identified for assessment.

The study will assess potential groundwater availability, water quality and the technical requirements for borehole drilling. Its findings will help inform future water provision initiatives and potential cooperation between Namibia and China, including discussions towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“Finding and securing water resources is critical for Namibia, particularly during the current season. This exercise is important as it will help us better understand where potential water resources are located and what is technically required to develop them,” said Mr. Teofilus Nghitila

Agriculture Minister visits Namib Foods Group to strengthen food security

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Hon. Inge Zaamwani, visited the Namib Foods Group on the 10th of this month as part of the Ministry’s effort to engage private sector, stakeholders and strengthen collaboration within Namibia’s agricultural and food value chains.
The Group, consisting of Namib Mills, Namib Poultry and Feed Master presented on its operations, its role in the processing, production and distribution of food products in Namibia, as well as areas of collaboration with the Agricultural Industry.
The engagement forms part of the ministry’s commitment to promoting local agricultural production, value addition and market access while strengthening links between producers, processors and the stakeholders across the agricultural sector.
Discussions also focused on opportunities to strengthen local value chains and create an enabling environment for increased participation of Namibian producers in the food industry.
The Minister emphasized the importance of partnerships between government and the private sector in advancing food security, local production, and sustainable agricultural development.
The engagement further demonstrates the ministry’s approach of engaging directly with industry stakeholders to better understand challenges and identify practical opportunities for collaboration that can contribute to the growth and development of Namibia’s agricultural sector.
