Namibian Judiciary Article 78(1) of the Namibian Constitution vests judicial power in the courts (The Supreme, High, and Lower Courts) of Namibia.

The Courts execute their constitutional mandate independently and only subject to the Constitution and the law.

Namibian Judiciary Commemorates International Day For Judicial Well-Being - The Namibian Judiciary commemorated the International Day of Judicial Well-Being today with a fun walk under the theme “Judicial Well-being and Integrity From Individual Resilience to Institutional Responsibility”. The event marks the first of its kind to be celebrated in Namibia after the United Nations General Assembly designated July 25 as the International Day for Judicial Well-being last year 2025, following the adoption of the Nauru Declaration on Judicial Well-being.

The Chief Justice, His Lordship Peter S. Shivute addressed the judicial officers and staff at the event. During his address, the Chief Justice declared the International Day of Judicial Wellbeing officially opened paving way for future commemorations in Namibia. The Chief Justice noted that the walk promotes physical wellbeing but equally presents an opportunity for judicial officers and administrative staff members to engage outside of the court environment.

“The walk we have just completed promotes physical well-being, but I hope it also serves another purpose. It gives us an opportunity to speak to colleagues whom we may ordinarily encounter only in courtrooms, offices or formal meetings. That matters because the Nauru Declaration identifies collegial connection as a key predictor of judicial well-being.”

The commemorative route began from the Rev. Michael Scott Street (Supreme Court) through to Dr. Sam Nujoma Drive to Independence Avenue, through John Meinert Street to JP Karuaihe Street and Fidel Castro Street to Robert Mugabe Avenue, and Dr. Sam Nujoma Drive and concluded back at the Supreme Court.

The event was marked with excitement and enthusiasm by all participants including family members who joined the fun walk.

COURTESY VISIT| Today, Hon. Christine //Hoebes, Namibia's High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia, a former Minister in the Presidency and Senior Presidential Advisor, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of the Republic of Namibia, His Lordship Peter S. Shivute, at the Supreme Court.
During the visit, Ms. //Hoebes reaffirmed her commitment to representing the interests of the Namibian State. She also underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between Namibia and countries in Southeast Asia.
During the meeting, the Hon. Chief Justice Shivute noted key areas of cooperation that may be explored by the Namibian Judiciary and other judicial institutions in Southeast Asia, so as to enhance access to justice to all.
Hon. //Hoebes expressed her readiness to facilitate these partnerships as part of her diplomatic mission, while the Chief Justice outlined the Judiciary's ongoing international engagement and commitment to fostering stronger institutional ties.
Chief Justice Shivute congratulated Hon. //Hoebes on her appointment and wished her success in her diplomatic mission. Chief Justice was joined by Mr. Innocent Kandandu, Deputy Executive Director of the Office of the Judiciary; Mrs. Surita Savage, Director: Lower Courts; and Mr. Sebastiaan Kandunda, Acting Registrar of the Supreme Court and High Court
