The Omuthiya Periodical Court in the Oshikoto Region commenced operations today, 8 June 2026. The Omuthiya Periodical Court will offer the full range of judicial and administrative services ordinarily available at Magistrates’ Courts throughout the country on a daily basis. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting criminal proceedings; the solemnization of marriages; handling of maintenance disputes; payment of court fines; disbursement of witness fees and receiving- and refunding of bail payments.
Presiding Magistrate Kaevarua Veruka Njembo opened proceedings with State vs Samuel Shooyeka, the inaugural matter before the court. The accused is charged with Count:1 Housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, Count 2: Assault with intent to do grievously body harm and Count of 3: Theft. The court ordered that the accused be remanded in custody on two counts and bail be granted of N$ 1000 for the count of assault.
The Omuthiya Periodical Court brings justice closer to the people of Omuthiya and neighboring communities. During this transitional period the court will preside over cases from Omuthiya, Onkumbula, Onembenge, Okatope, Omuntele, Onankali, Onanke, King Nehale and King Kauluma Police Stations as Gazetted.
