The Sàmi are one of the world's indigenous people and one of Sweden's official national minoritie, with around 20,000-40,000 Sámi living in Sweden today. The minority status means – in short – that they have special rights and that their culture, traditions and languages are protected by law. The Sàmi have 11 flag days and today, 26 August, is one of them.

The flag was designed by Astrid Båhl in 1986. The red part of the circle represents the sun and the blue part represent the moon.
The colours red, blue, green and yellow reflect the Sámi national costume and symbolises:

🌳 Green for nature
💧 Blue for water
🔥 Red for fire
☀️ Yellow for the sun

ดูวิธีการทำและสูตร "köttbullar" หรือมีทบอลสวีเดน เราหวังว่าคุณจะทดลองทำและอย่าลืมแชร์ผลงานของคุณให้เราดูบ้าง!

The 23rd August of every year is Swedish Meatball Day! 🇸🇪 🍽️🥔🔴🥒

Today is Swedish meatball day, when one of our country’s most beloved dishes is highlighted! The traditional way to eat them is with mashed potatoes, gravy, lingonberry jam, and pickled cucumber.
Check out our “köttbullar” or Swedish meatball recipe. We hope you will try making them and share with us the photo of your creation!

Note: The substitute for lingonberries are cranberries.

Thais competed in Ironman Kalmar (English below)

🇹🇭 🇸🇪 💪🏻 เพื่อนคนไทยของเราเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน Ironman Kalmar 2023

Ironman Kalmar เป็นการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาที่จะมีขึ้นทุกปีในเดือนสิงหาคมในใจกลางเมืองคาลมาร์(Kalmar)ทางตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของสวีเดน ในปีนี้มีกลุ่มเพื่อน 10 คนจากประเทศไทยเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน หนึ่งในนั้นคือนักแสดงและนักร้องชาวไทย สมชาย “เต๋า” เข็มกลัด

แม้ว่าคุณ “เต๋า” และเพื่อนอีก 4 คนจะจบการแข่งขันไม่ทันเวลาคัทออฟ แต่เราขอบอกไว้เลยว่าพวกคุณทุกคนกล้ามากที่ได้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันสุดโหดนี้ เราไม่สามารถจินตนาการได้เลยว่าอากาศและน้ำจะหนาวเย็นแค่ไหนสำหรับพวกคุณทุกคน

การแข่งขัน Ironman Kalmar 2023 ประกอบไปด้วย:

🏊‍♂️ ว่ายน้ำ 3.8 กม
🚴‍♂️ จักรยาน 180 กม
🏃‍♂️ วิ่ง 42.2 กม

ถึงแม้เพื่อนของเราทั้งห้าคนนี้ยังพิชิตการแข่งไตรกีฬานี้ไม่ได้ แต่พวกเขาก็ได้รับเหรียญรางวัลช็อกโกแลตจากลูกสาวของผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันท่านหนึ่งเป็นการปลอบใจ! 🏅

🇹🇭 🇸🇪 💪🏻 A group of Thai friends competed in Ironman Kalmar 2023

Ironman Kalmar is a Triathlon competition. It is taking place every August in the center of the city Kalmar, a city in the southeast of Sweden. This year a group of 10 friends from Thailand participated in the race, including the Thai actor/singer Somchai “Tao” Khemglad.

Even though Khun “Tao” and four of his friends didn’t finish the race in time for cut off, we just want to say that you are all so brave to even enter this tough race. We can’t imagine how cold it must have been in the air and also in the water for you all.

The course of Ironman Kalmar 2023:

🏊‍♂️ Swimming 3.8 km
🚴‍♂️ Bike 180 km
🏃‍♂️ Run 42.2 km

Even tough five friends didn’t finish the Triathlon, they got chocolate medals from one attending daughter. So sweet! 🏅

You all did a great job and big applause to you! 👏👏

เมื่อปีที่แล้ว สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้เดินทางไปเยี่ยมมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำ 8 แห่งทั่วประเทศไทยเพื่อเผยแพร่และแนะนำข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการศึกษาระดับอุดมศึกษาและการใช้ชีวิตและการศึกษาในสวีเดน เราได้ไปพบปะกับนักศึกษาในมหาวิทยาลัยในกรุงเทพฯ 4 แห่ง และต่างจังหวัด 4 แห่ง (ชลบุรี ขอนแก่น เชียงใหม่ และภูเก็ต)

และจากความสำเร็จของการเดินทางในปีที่แล้ว เราจะออกเดินทางอีกครั้ง!

Study in Sweden back on the road – visit #4 Mae Fah Luang University!

Last year the Embassy, in the capacity of Study in Sweden, organized a road trip visiting 8 leading universities around Thailand. We visited 4 in Bangkok and 4 in other provinces (Chonburi, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and Phuket).

Since it was a great success, we are doing it again!

This year, we will visit 9 universities around Thailand and hope it will be somewhere near you so you can join us.

Visit #4 – Mae Fah Luang University will be on 26 August!

Representative from the Embassy will be available to provide you with information about higher education in Sweden and how it is to live and study there. We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

☕ At the Embassy of Sweden, we try to green our workplace as much as possible. Purchasing locally grown fruits for our weekly fika is our first choice.

💚 We choose to buy fruits from a local supplier at the nearest fresh market, not only to support the local economy but also to reduce travel distance to minimize the carbon footprint.

🍌We are so blessed to be in Thailand where there is a lot to explore including a rich variety of tropical fruits. Fika is an opportunity for the Swedish colleagues to learn about Thai fruits. For example, a small, firm but flavorful lady finger banana is rarely seen in a supermarket. Our Swedish colleague called it ‘one-bite banana’.

🇸🇪 These are some topics presented by Sweden on August 11, 2023 at the Human Rights Development Institute’s first Human Rights training Course (senior level) กรมคุ้มครองสิทธิและเสรีภาพ กระทรวงยุติธรรม. We discussed about Sweden’s practices, challenges and opportunities in relation to human rights promotion and protection.

✈️ We are specially happy that these participants are visiting Sweden for their study trip on human rights in September. The study trip to Sweden followed Sweden’s recommendation during the launch of the Human Rights Development Institute in May. 💝Sweden and Thailand have the long-standing human rights cooperation and most importantly we grow from learning from each other. Thailand’s first National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights in 2019 was initiated following Sweden’s recommendation in Thailand’s 2016 Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Meanwhile, Sweden’s first National Institute for Human Rights became operational in January, partly because of the recommendations of many countries, including Thailand’s recommendation in Sweden’s 2020 UPR.

เมื่อปีที่แล้ว สถานเอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้เดินทางไปเยี่ยมมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำ 8 แห่งทั่วประเทศไทยเพื่อเผยแพร่และแนะนำข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการศึกษาระดับอุดมศึกษาและการใช้ชีวิตและการศึกษาในสวีเดน เราได้ไปพบปะกับนักศึกษาในมหาวิทยาลัยในกรุงเทพฯ 4 แห่ง และต่างจังหวัด 4 แห่ง (ชลบุรี ขอนแก่น เชียงใหม่ และภูเก็ต)

Study in Sweden back on the road – visit #3 Suranaree University of Technology!

Last year the Embassy, in the capacity of Study in Sweden, organized a road trip visiting 8 leading universities around Thailand. We visited 4 in Bangkok and 4 in other provinces (Chonburi, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and Phuket).

Since it was a great success, we are doing it again!

This year, we will visit 9 universities around Thailand and hope it will be somewhere near you so you can join us.

Visit #3 – Suranaree University of Technology will be on 18 August!
Representative from the Embassy will be available to provide you with information about higher education in Sweden and how it is to live and study there. We will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Cosplay and Gaming Festival in Sweden (English below)

👾 🇸🇪 ทราบหรือไม่ว่า NärCon เป็นเทศกาลคอสเพลย์และเกมที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในยุโรปเหนือ จัดขึ้นที่เมืองลินเชอปิง (Linköping) ของสวีเดนเป็นประจำทุกปี

👾 🇸🇪 Did you know that Northern Europe’s largest cosplay and gaming festival NärCon takes place in the city of Linköping in Sweden every year?

🎲🕹️ This alcohol and drug free festival is where you make new friends, cosplay and play games together. Every year there are around 800 scheduled activities, from talks and shows to games and tournaments. Over 15 000 people participated in NärCon that took place between 25-28 July 2023.

🎮🌏It’s a truly social event, where amateurs get a chance to meet with gaming pros from many corners of the world who are there to compete.
