The Colorado State Forest Service provides forestry and wildfire mitigation information to Colorado.

The mission of the Colorado State Forest Service is to achieve stewardship of Colorado’s diverse forest environments for the benefit of present and future generations. We are a service and outreach agency of the Office of Engagement and Extension at Colorado State University. Take a few minutes to learn about a very special spot, northwest of Fort Collins. The Borden Memorial Forest honors former Colorado State Forester Tom Borden's commitment to trees, forests, conservation and education.

Warner College of Natural Resources

Tom Borden was a Colorado State forester who donated his land to CSU. Today, Borden Memorial Forest provides Warner College students with hands-on learning experiences and a connection to the land.

We had a great time recognizing this year's 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 at a picnic in Livermore this fall.

Private landowners like the Snyder Family play a vital role keeping Colorado's forests healthy. Congratulations, Glenn, and thank you for your dedication to !

Some of Colorado’s most interesting wood comes from our cities.
When urban trees are removed, their wood can be salvaged and transformed into useful products. And what woodworkers find inside can be a surprise!
Urban trees sometimes grow around nails, fences and other objects, leaving behind unusual patterns and discoloration in the wood.
Plus, Colorado’s cities are home to species rarely found in our forests, like catalpa, elm and honey locust. Their distinctive wood creates one-of-a-kind furniture, art and other products.
Our staff recently toured Denver Wood Slabs to see the craftsmanship involved in giving urban trees a second life.

Since 1960, the U.S. has set aside the third week in October to recognize the value and importance of forest products and their sustainable uses.

Petrified wood is a type of fossilization. The organic materials in a tree (cellulose and lignin) are slowly replaced by minerals in the surrounding mud. It takes over a million years to crystallize.

This is a pretty cool petrified pine cone one of our foresters found near La Veta Pass. Petrified wood and other fossils teach us about ancient ecosystems, vegetation evolution and past climates.

Today on National Loggers Day, we recognize the hardworking logging professionals who play a vital role in sustaining the health and productivity of our nation’s forests. Through active forest management work, carried out in partnership with the Forest Service, loggers help reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest health, support local economies, and maintain resilient landscapes for future generations.

While attending in Tacoma, we enjoyed taking a walk through the Wright Park Arboretum. This Giant Sequoia (𝘚𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘰𝘪𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘯 𝘨𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘮) was planted in 1939.
