Green waste from Hurricane Lowell cleanup is being returned to the ‘aina. Fallen trees and branches removed by HDOT crews on Kaua‘i are being chipped to use as mulch for landscaping by local companies including Kaua‘i Coffee and Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping. Debris that is not chipped is being taken to the county’s temporary green waste locations.

Kauai 9/22/26: There will be a contraflow set up on Kuhio Hwy. between North Leho Drive and the Wailua Bridge today, Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 12:30 p.m. to repair a damaged power pole.

Maui 9/21/26 5:30PM: Paving work has been completed on the makai lane on North Kihei Road that was damaged by high surf from Hurricane Lowell. Repairs will continue. Both lanes will remain open.

Federal Highway Administration ER funds at work… the March Kona Lows and April heavy rains washed out the Ki‘ona‘ole and Kamoali‘i culverts next to the H-3 Freeway in Kāne‘ohe. The temporary pedestrian bridge is open for use following the full closure of Gulick Avenue that began at 6 a.m. today. Detours via School Street and Pacheco Street are available to access the area on either end. Kauai 9/21/26: On Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Kapaa there will be a single lane closure near milepost 8.7 in the vicinity of Kou Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for KIUC to do emergency repairs to power poles.

Oahu 9/18/26 4:13PM: This work has been completed. All lanes are now open on eastbound Nimitz Highway between River Street and Aloha Tower.

Oahu 9/18/26 12:12 PM: The right eastbound lane and adjacent sidewalk on Nimitz Highway between River Street and Aloha Tower is closed to allow a crew to conduct structural inspections in the area.

On Thursday, HDOT reopened Wainiha River Bridge No. 3 on Kaua‘i to 15-ton traffic after access was weight-limited to 5 tons or below, to address scour damage from Hurricane Lowell. The reopening was ahead of the originally scheduled date of Monday, Sept. 21, after crews were able to complete work on a new abutment. During the weight-restriction closure, HDOT worked with Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency to coordinate access for emergency vehicles and heavy machinery needed for recovery work. Crews will also clear rocks that have piled up at the river fork upstream once weather conditions allow.
